I spent the 6 tokens on Hierro and replaced Marquinhos TOTY for him. So far I'm very happy that I picked this beast and will likely keep him for a very long time! His interceptions, his strength combined with his really good passing and dribbling (agility is very good for a CB) makes him one of the best CBs I've used in FIFA. Especially regarding the fact you only need 6 tokens to get him.
So far I've used anchor on him which felt already good and boosts is strength and aggression even more and boosts his jumping to the maximum. He's always a threat when you have a corner kick and wins every heading duel defensively as well. I've bought a shadow chem style now as he's not one of the fastest CBs and hope that I will see that pace upgrade in game.
Of course you can link icons with everyone but he'll make strong links to popular players like Alba, Piqué Scream, Butragueno, Villa, Guardiola and many more.
I play him alongside Alba (LB), Diego Carlos RTTF (CB) and Capa IF (RB). My defense honestly feels like a wall out of steel - on steroids.
Tackles and interceptions
Jumping and heading
Really good agility and reactions for a CB
Strong links to popular defenders and midfielders (Piqué Scream, Ramos, Butragueno, Guardiola, Villa and many more)
Generally incredible value for little effort
He lacks a bit of pace (could be fixed with shadow chem style)
I didn't get him in Icon Swaps. I ended up buying him off the transfer market so I could have some Spanish CB pair with my Futmas De Gea. He's about 300k and I'd say that's a fair price for him. I'd say he's good but not as great as other top tier CB's around his price or more. He's great at stopping attackers and getting the ball out of harm's way but can get beaten easily from players who dribble well with fake shots and drag backs. He can head the ball well and can pass the ball up the field good too. I just felt it wasn't worth spending coins on when you can get him pretty easily from Icon Swaps. And compared to other Icon CB's like Ferdinand and Desailly, I'd prefer those two over him. Overall, he's a great defender but if you were to get him, do his Icon Swap rather than spend 300k or more coins on him.
So i've had this Hierro card since Icon Swaps. Around that time he was easily one of the most broken defenders in the game, he would win every header, every tackle and with a shadow applied he would get back in even the worst 1-on-1 scenarios. But i don't know whether its due to the new range of cards of attackers coming out or recent updates. But the past 3 Weekend Leagues with this guy and he has honestly cost me a handful of victories in both Rivals and Champs. Every time he does a standing tackle now, its guaranteed to rebound off the attacker and they're in on Goal. Shadow applied and he feels so slow that in game Bobby Moore beats him in a race. Corners he will not win any headers and his distribution is poor lately and always seems to play the wrong pass. It's a real shame because I've played over 300 games with this card. It's now at the stage where he's getting bodied off the ball by Mertens, and we all know how that is extremely questionably in it's own right.
In conclusion, this card is great if you're in lower divisions and only going for Gold 3 in weekend league. But if you're trying to get end game players and move up in rankings to get the better rewards like me (Div 2) to try and compete with all the kids that ruin this game by running down the line and pressing A.
I recommend going for CB's like Varane or if you have the opportunity SBC CB's such as Zakaria as they are consistent and you can rely on them.
Icon - Links everywhere!
Price - Affordable at this stage of the game for most players who play consistently.
Pace - Even with a shadow feels very slow
Passing - Not consistent and can't rely on Hierro to start your counter attack.
Tackling - Will win the ball in hard situations but almost always give it straight back to the opponent as it rebounds off them and due to the pace can not make a recovery in time.
