Not since Leo DiCaprio went down with the Titanic, or Justin Beiber sang Baby, has there been so much hype over a twenty-something-year-old starlet. I swear if EA had made him the cover star of the Ultimate Edition people would have ended up buying two copies each in the hype. So while grown men sell their souls to purchase the OTW edition of João Félix I figured it was worth a review to see if the future of Portuguese Football lives up to the hype.
Félix started in the 4-2-2-2 formation as a Left/Right ST throughout the majority of my review; after two games at 4-2-3-1 I realized that this would not work well, so we made the switch. Playing alongside another ST allowed Félix to combine and create further chances per game and allowed him to really show his qualities. Division Rivals was the battleground once again, and João Félix was the weapon at the end of the following squad:
I just want to take a second to point out that I was off on my rating for Marcus Rashford and if I had my time back he would be an 8.5/10. Rashford is currently one of the most effective players in FUT and I just didn’t realize how effective until getting my hands on other options. Back to João Félix and his overall rating, which falls in line with Lucas Moura for different reasons. The pace and agility of Moura is equaled by the shooting ability, high-level skills, and physicality of Félix.
Linkability
Rating: 3/5
There is no doubt that La Liga boasts some amazing options for linking Félix into your squad. However, I realized in a hurry that it was going be hard to build a team to link with my EPL midfielders and backline. Gonçalo Guedes and Thomas Lemar both offered some low budget connections but I was not overly impressed with either player.
Current Game Strength
Rating: 4.5/5
I went with the Hunter chemistry style for this review with the need to provide Félix with a bit of pep in his step, boosting him to 89 ACCELERATION and 95 SPRINT SPEED. With a combination of 5 STAR SKILLS and a 4 STAR WEAK FOOT, the Atleti man really does do it all. Perhaps the most surprising category was the physicality that comes with this card. 64 STRENGTH with a lean body type does not seem like a recipe for strength, but in this case, everything just mixes right and you get the perfect combination for speed, skill, and strength. It is also worth noting that this card seems larger in-game than his 5’11 (181cm) suggests and he wins his fair share of aerial and shoulder to shoulder battles.
Value/Coins
Rating: 4.5/5
Honestly, this rating should be higher, but paying 24k for an 80 rated rare gold just feels all kinds of wrong. Production-wise I can’t argue with over a goal per game and 8 assists across 20 matches, but it is just the principle of paying for a card real-life hype that seems wrong. But… if I had a gun to my head, this card is worth every coin of the 24k price tag and probably a 5/5 rating in the end.
Good vs. Bad & Unique Value
Rating: 4.5/5
I have touched on the majority of the good things João Félix does in-game and the list is long. My one major complaint is the passing on this card, which often falls short of what I would normally accept in my frontmen. Additionally, it drives me nuts that he still does not have a real face in-game. Apparently he has had the scans but no update yet. Not everyone cares about these small details but to others, it can be a deciding factor when buying players. Yet, if we strictly stick to on the field ability this card is a wizard on the ball and can finish as well. His left foot is a cannon and reliability accurate in goal scoring situations, while his height offers an aerial threat in the box.
Uniqueness
Rating: 4.5/5
I had to give this category some limelight for this review after doing a bit of player sorting detective work. If you take the Pace, Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, & Physical categories for João Félix and set the minimum based on his ratings you get quite a few players who measure up. However, when you add in the 5 STAR SKILLS and 4 STAR WEAK FOOT you get a shocking list of players. I will save you time … Pele, R10, CR7, Mbappe, Kaka and… you guessed it, João Félix. Part of me wants to go back and take back some of my overpriced comments after discovering this, but I will stay true to my initial thoughts. But maybe, just maybe, the 144k for the OTW version of this card is not so ludicrous after all… maybe.
Closing Words
With João Félix you get goals, skills, strength, a terrible in-game face, and a lot of hype. I can think of a lot worse ways to spend 24k and if you don’t jive with the Portuguese wonderkid you can sell him faster than a Chelsea manager after a three-game losing skid. In all honesty, a player like João Félix is exactly what the beginning of FIFA is all about. If you are looking for a different option to lead the line in your squad than look no further, he does the trick. Cheers for reading.
Joao felix has been very hyped this year but he certainly lives up to this hype. For around 8-13k you can get a very versitile player who can play in a range of different positions like ST, CAM, CF or LW. I played him in a 4-1-2-1-2(2) at CAM and it worked like a charm. He is a very creative playermaker and can pick passes out like its nothing. His long passing isn't great though. His Dribbling is a lot better than it looks and he is suprisingly silky on the ball. His shooting is immense and he is so lethal infront of goal. Long shot, no problem. Curved finesse, no problem, 1 on 1, no problem. This man's finishing is like nothing I've seen before! His pace is okay but can be boosted incredibly with a hunter or catalyst chemistry style. His physicality lacks as his strength is on the low side and his aerial ability is not very good. Overall a very good and enjoyable card. With an IF or two he could be a fantastic end game threat.
Got fifa 20 not long ago, tried out morales and other op meta strikers, but the formation i was using (433(5)) wasnt having any success. Enter João Felix. Scored a hat-trick to win a game 3-2 against an icon god squad, from then on he's been doing nothing less. Will be picking up his otw!
i am using him in my 433(4) line up at the CAM position and he great every chance i have he scores he his a really amazing player with a good shoot pace and dribling is one of the best in his position CAM,CF,ST you can use him one of this and he gonna be amazing for your team you can choose your chem style and you have a great player.
