I am going to be honest, I was not looking forward to the Halloween Scream event this year; based on prior experience it is a lot of hype with a lot of disappointment. But credit where credit is due, EA has done a fantastic job of this promo thus far. The squad offered a variety of options, the player SBCs have been useable players (a bit pricey), and the daily SBCs have been enjoyable (minus the kit). It was immediately obvious that Scream Bernard was going to be a popular option and it just so happen I was in the market for LW. After last weekend I knew I needed a formation overhaul and so Bernard played on the LW and left ST position in a 4-1-2-1-2 wide formation. I set out this Weekend League wondering if Bernard would be a trick or treat in the following formation:
Back down to an 8/10 with Bernard, who bears a spooky resemblance to Lucas Moura in terms of quality. Both Brazilians are short in stature, quick, agile dribbling, 4 STAR WEAK FOOT and SKILLS, and both could seriously use some additional strength on the ball. Bernard was a steady Eddie player for me throughout the weekend; he would get a goal, link-up play, provide pace, and find the gaps in opponent’s backlines. Honestly, if Bernard was more clinical around goal he could have added 10 – 15 goals based on really good chances alone. But you can only go off of results and with that Bernard was good, but could have been better.
Linkability
Rating: 4/5
Quality league, quality nation, and a nice link to those red Lucas Digne’s from last weekend, and of course if you decide to go with Roberto Carlos from the ICON Swaps he is a nice link there as well. Bernard offers some interesting team selections and the only thing that would make him stronger would be a centralized position.
Current Game Strength
Rating: 5/5
Despite a slightly lower overall rating I had to go with the 5/5 for this category, and the main reason is the current meta. These types of pacey, agile dribbling, 4+ STAR SKILLERS are boss right now and the current price tag on Messi only accentuates that. Honestly, my overall is extremely jaded by the number of chances missed with this card throughout the weekend. Perhaps I should have tried a different chemistry style after 10 games, but everything else was just working so well. The dribbling and responsiveness with this card is insane and borderline unplayable. 99+ AGILITY and BALANCE with 96 DRIBBLING sent defenders for hot dogs in the stands all weekend long, and then the stock 92 ACCELERATION leaves most defenders flailing in the dust when you take off. On the wing, this card caused a lot of issues that didn’t always translate directly to goals and assists, but he was involved in a lot of the good things I did in possession this weekend.
Value/Coins
Rating: 5/5
He dropped to 200k late Sunday evening and then was around 222k during the day Monday, suggesting this card will be somewhere in this area. I think good value for money comparison for Scream Bernard can be found in Sadio Mane who carries a lot of the same attributes and similar in-game statistics but at 120k more. The biggest area of difference is in the strength category though as Mane stands taller and stronger on the ball, additionally, I found Mane to be considerably more clinical around goal. There is no doubt that Bernard holds his own in comparison though, and justifies the price tag and then some… I honestly feel 250k would still be fair given the qualities in this card.
Good vs. Bad
Good vs. Bad Rating: 4.5/5
I have mentioned a lot of positives, but one more for good measure … 99 STAMINA is such a nice feature on a card and the amount of work rate on the wing was impressive. High/High would have been even better in the 4-1-2-1-2 formation but he still put in a shift when called upon. But in the end, this leads to my negative and the fact I felt I had to move Bernard to the wing in the first place, due to a lack of finishing. Strength on the ball was also an issue in that it is non-existent … and the 99 JUMPING is a bit of farce given the Brazilians inability to get on height regulated amusement park rides.
Closing Words
Having read over everything said so far I think it is clear. Bernard is a creator, a magician, a pace merchant, and a handful to defend. He is not a goal poacher, a clinical finisher, and he needs to hit the gym. But his 4 STAR SKILLS can be absolutely lethal in the right hands; and if you are needing someone to break lines to get the ball into capable striker’s feet, he is a gold mine. Cheers for reading.
So this is my first review ever, but Bernard Ultimate Scream was blowing my mind while playing him. So I played around 20 Matches with him in Fut Champions and Division Rivals (Division 4) and I am totally stunned by this little fella.
I played him as striker with a hunter chemistry style (almost 99 pace then and perfect shooting) in a 4 2 3 1 formation alongside Taison IF (also very good) Lucas (good) and Dembele as CAM.
He scored 26 goals and assisted 10.
I bought him for 170 k on xbox while the rewards where out (always a good time to snipe some players) and he is worth every coin. As you can see his price is at the moment at 210 k, so maybe the community get to appreciate that he is something else on the pitch.
Conclusion: There are not many good LWs or LMs at the moment. For me he is above Sane and Mane! So if you got the coins get him! You get the perfect meta player for this moment! To be honest I do not unterstand how the stats-change of the Scream cards works, but at the moment he got 99 jumping, just imagine if they boost his finishing to 99!
All in all i am very, very happy that i bought this card. He is a gamechanger!
Pace: Lightning fast. If he loses the ball because of his weak physis, he immediatly wins it back. He scored so many goals just by intercepting passes of the opponents goal keeper or defenders.
Dribbling: Very very fast, agile and quick. His reactions are perfect. Feels better than Insigne, Mertens, Dybala (I tried those too, but they dont come even near to Bernards dribbling abilities)
Shooting: Very good, He finishes almost everything inside the box, outside the box his finesse shots are a absolute banger! Sometimes he feels a bit inconsistent, but well 25 goals in 20 games speak for itself. (Or maybe I am just bad at finishing)
Passing: Well it feels much more than just 80, at short passing he is perfect and even most of his long passes reached the foot of my players.
Physis: Well he is 5,5 "tall" and yeah, he is weak but to be honest because of his pace, agility and so on, he maybe gets pushed away, but gets up really quick and wins the ball back very often. BUT ! He got 99 stamina, which means you can play him 120 minutes! He never gets tired. In the 104 th minute he feels like a freshly changed in supersub.
Defending: Not much to say there, but well like i already said: He intercepts many balls because of his pace, he catches up to the opponents players while their build up play and wins the ball from time to time
I agree with futbin review. As a player who plays Fifa since 09, I have seen many players who dont reflect their stats. At first, I though Bernard was a one of them. However, I wanted to try it also I knew that his price will be up when his cards out of packed. I bought it 170 k ( PS4).
I use him mainly as a LM-LW according to my tactics and also after the 70 th minute I changed him as a CAM with basic chemistry style. By the way, I dont believe in chem styles. I want to say before you read the pros and cons, he is very useful and brings to you maybe 2-3 wins according to your records. IF you dont have enough budget to buy Neymar you should buy him without question.
Pace: Because of he is very small I guess 1.64m ( 5.5) he can reach his top speed quickly. However, his top speed is less. If you opponent have Cancelo, Semedo or Walker you may have issue but by using trigger buttons you can defeat your opponent's back.
Shoot: Although he has not finesse shot trait, when you cut inside with him, you can use finesse shoot very effectively. Also his finishing and composure are not so much however you dont feel in game.
Dribbling and Agility: As a result of being short, even his normal gold card has a amazing agility. If you have a good connection, you can do whatever you want.
Stamina: This card is truly amazing. You can use him 2 matches x 120 minutes. Usually after the 70-75 minutes I use him as a CAM that's why he can play maybe 180 minutes :)
Pace: His pace is both advantage and disadvantage. As I said, his acceleration is high because of being short and as a result his top speed is less. When you use long through ball, if your opponent has Cancelo or similar players, he can catch you.
Physicality: I think you should not have any expectations. However, in this game i think pace is everything. You can catch your opponents by using his acceleration and you can avoid to crossing or passing. I gave him physcality 5/10 but his stamina amazing.
