Player Review
89 - Icon
Hi Guys - this is my first review. Thought I would share my opinion of Drogba 89 given some of you are still deciding which ICON to select from Season 1.
What I will give you here is my rating of his stat categories (pace, shooting, passing etc) based on 221 games experience across squad battles (elite 1), FUT champs (gold 2), and Division Rivals (5 at the moment).
Before I do, I will preface this review by stating that I selected him based on his outstanding goals per game average as seen in the PGP (Player Game Performance) statistics. Along with CR7 and R9 his goal scoring ability is unrivaled according to FUTBIN statistics.
PACE: 8 / 10
Firstly, his acceleration does not feel like 90, as the stats would have you believe. I would liken in to more like 80. However, once he gets some momentum up with that 'galloping' running style he really is quick and given his physics (height, weight, strength), he reminds me of a runaway freight train. He draws defenders to him as opponents scramble to stop him. This means that he will create space for your other forwards to take advantage of.
His pace will allow him to make beautiful forward runs past your opponents defense and with the help of holding the jostle (L2 - PS4, LB - Xbox) button, he is hard to stop and once he is in the opposition box or near it, you just unleash the cannons that are his right foot and 4* left.
SHOOTING: 9 / 10
Power and accuracy is what you can expect. Left and right foot. The only reason I gave him a 9 instead of a 10 is because he could be slightly better at finesse shots, given he does not have the 'finesse shot' trait. That is being picky though. Most times you will not notice this, because he will blast straight, diagonal, low, high missiles past the keeper with his feet and rarely his head. This will make you happy :) Oh and he is wonderful penalty taker.
PASSING: 8 / 10
Much better than I expected. I would rate him a solid 85 out of 100, instead of the 75 EA seem to rate him. As you can via my stats in playing with his card, he assists quite a lot. One reason for this is because he draws players to him which frees your other forwards to run into space. Another is because he is a fantastic target man, given his size and strength make his ability to hold the ball unique. If you have other forwards around him that are quick and agile (ie Messi, Mertens, Gnabry, Lucas, Ben Yedder), they will compliment Drogba's size and strength and score goals from the havoc he creates up forward.
DRIBBLING: 6 / 10
Not his strong suit, but not as horrible as some would have you believe. If you want him to charge at defenders and outmaneuver them, he is not your man, despite the 4 * skills. He is no Zlatan Scream when it comes to skills for a big guy. His touch is slightly heavy, hence why many players label him 'clunky' after a dozen games and dismiss his upside - which is immense if you adapt and play to his strengths.
DEFENSE: 7 / 10
Surprising. His height, strength, aggression and high / high work rates allow him extend and retrieve the ball at will. He works hard both ways and will push players aside and retrieve the ball. When he does this after he turns the ball over in the final third (which he will at times given his average dribbling) and then launches a missile and scores - it brings with it a warm and content smile to your body.
PHYSICALITY: 9 / 10
Bull. El Torro. You get what I mean. He is big, strong and quick when up and running. Wonderful target man to given the ball to while your other players scramble forward to support. Will beat Ramos, VVD for strength and punch a goal past a keeper. This game is not designed for offensive headers and I haven't scored many with him (any tips?) however he does clear the ball in defense by head extremely often and with power.
Disclaimer: I am not the best player and this is just my take. I can do skill moves, however I am neither good or bad but somewhere in between. Drogba is a player who will probably not satisfy your skilling needs if that is what you are after. He will score goals and assist, provided you use him as you should. That is, send him running forward (if he hasn't done so by himself) and feed him the ball. Adios and I hope this review is useful to you.
- Strength
- Shot Power?
- Workhorse (his High / High work-rates actually are a positive as he wins the ball back in the attacking third and midfield. This does NOT detract from his wonderful forward runs into ultimately a wonderful scoring position)

- Dribbling
