Player Review
92 - Icon
I'm a Div 1 and occasionally Elite 3 player, and I've have been through my fair share of strikers recently; 90 Butra, 92 Lewandowski, 90 Best, 90 Hernandez, but I didn't seem to settle with any of them. That's when I decided to take a risk and try out good old Gaz here. I can honestly say in terms of consistent goal scoring ability, Gaz seems to trump all other strikers I've tried - so much so that I've had to write a review on him.
Looking at previous comments and reviews, it seems that the general consensus is to apply an engine chem style to boost that pace and his average dribbling, but I went for a hunter just to see what he could really do with basically maxed out pace and let me tell you, the lad is rapid. He genuinely feels as fast as all of the pacey strikers previously mentioned and I often find him breezing past the likes of Van Dijk and Militao. I'm also pretty sure I once saw him look over his shoulder and wink at Varane as he accelerated through onto goal. His positioning due to his High/Low is phenomenal and he is constantly on the last man, ready to receive a tender through ball from his accommodating yet humble attacking midfielders.
Something that surprised me was his strength. He can more often than not run shoulder to shoulder with the best defenders on the game without being pushed off the ball, and this gives his pace enough time to kick in so that he can round defenders and burst through the the back line without being caught. I was up against TOTY De Ligt recently and Lineker was outpacing him easily without being bullied. Now that's lit.
Time and time again his breakaway pace opens up the space behind him for my Mbappe (who I play central CAM in 4-2-3-1) to sneak in behind and have a teasing through ball played to him by the King himself. As well as this, Lineker's cut backs from the by-lines are usually pin point and I've found his passing to be one of the more surprisingly good qualities about him so far.
His finishing. My god his finishing. With the hunter chem style applied, it practically guarantees goals from anywhere within the 18 yard box and sometimes outside of it. Be it first time shots, near or far post powers or finesses, this man can do it all. Sure, he's hit the post a couple of times, but the quality and number of goals he has scored vastly outweighs his misses.
Now it's time to talk about his dribbling. I've opted for a chem style which keeps his dribbling as it is, and I will be the first to say it isn't nearly as fluid as the likes of Mbappe, Neymar or Zola but it does the job for what I need him for. You could probably feel a bit of an improvement with engine applied, but I would rather have his pace boosted to electrifying than have his dribbling boosted to above average. Hunter all the way.
To summarise, I can honestly say that Gaz was a beacon of light in a well-rounded, OP team and he stood out from the rest, bagging goals in every game I played. I have him tradeable and bought him for 630k and I think this is incredible value. He's by far the best goalscorer I've used for under 1mil (apart from 90 Mbappe) and I'd say this 92 Prime Icon is a bargain if bought for anything under 900k.
If you can look past the just decent dribbling and the fact that this man soiled himself during a live match, then I highly recommend you pick this lad up.
