Player Review
91 - TOTS
I previously ran with Ronald Koeman from Icon swaps next to my SBC Opara to get him max chem. Opara, for me, is the best defender in the game, as not other player can combine such abilities in pace, defending, passing and physicality other than the top spec Van Dijk and Ramos. So when Carlos popped up in a 2 player pack, I was pleasantly surprised and had to work him in. This is the reason why I haven't given him a 5* for value, since a) I burgled him, and b) he is untradeable. Games played in rivals using a mixture of my go to team and a la liga team. I added a Guardian to him to mimic how Opara handles, making him a tall, agile, fast defender that has maxed out defensive ability. Having used him for a good amount of time, I have to say, he matches Opara in pretty much every way. Anyway, stats:
Pace: No need for a shadow (don't be that guy) as he has yet to be outrun by any forward I have come up against. Covers out wide very well when the full back pushes forward, acceleration and sprint speed are top notch. His acceleration is the best aspect, and due to his proximity to the goal, you'll never be concerned. 10/10
Shooting: The one blight on this card. Non existent, but you don't really get him for this area. Pretty rubbish at every attempt, and didn't score from a set piece for me, although that may be my inability with from corners. Not worth ranking.
Passing: Excellent for the basics. Short passing is spot on, and long passing is good enough to play out from the back. Crossing is poor, slow and inaccurate, but there are not many centre halves that you buy for the crossing stat. 4* weak foot is a nice bonus. Never bothered with the free kicks, so can't comment. 7/10 seems bad, but that is down to the poor crossing, and in reality you won't be doing much with him.
Dibbling: Fantastic, especially with guardian. Balance of 70 doesn't appear a problem since he is rarely knocked off the ball, and improving the agility and ball playing aspects really makes this card elite. His transition in defending is top notch, and his calmness to make tackles and stop attacks is well represented. He even brings the ball out well when attacking, which was a nice surprise. 8/10 since 10 is for the Ansu Fati's, and 9 is for the attacking midfielders and wingers.
Defending: Standing tackle is brilliant, sliding tackle is as good as you can get, and his speed and agility really assist with his interceptions. There isn't an area in the defence which he falls down, and that makes him well worth it in my eyes. Adding to that, he can do it with both feet. 10/10, and as a poor player who spends a lot of time defending, this is not given lightly.
Physicality: No problems. Dominant in the air and off it. Stamina has not been a problem since he is a centre half. Yet to be pushed off the ball as well, and the aggression is really evident when winning the ball. 9/10, purely because if you sprint all game, his stamina does drop
In conclusion, worth it? A defender for that price, he better tick all the boxes, and fortunately, Carlos does that, with a 4* weak foot and perfect work rates. He matches Opara's ability, and adds to it a better weak foot, better links, and a more assured performance. Fantastic, and a nice link to a certain Spanish left back found in objectives.
