Player Review
92 - TOTS
This is my review of TOTS Atal playing at CDM in a 4-2-3-1; typically i am an elite 3 player, however; I have not played much weekend league since Christmas, as such, Gold 1/Elite 3 was my target for this weekend. After having experimented with Thiago and Corona as my cdm's during this weekend league, I quickly realised I was leaking far too many goals, I needed a more solid option to partner Corona (swap with Gullit in-game); whilst maintaining the ability to play fluid possesion football. Once ligue 1 TOTS was released, i bought this card immediately for 1.05 million coins (Xbox). Initially I trialed him with the Basic chem style, as I wanted him to be a more well-rounded card. His role was to support the attack and pop up with goals, whilst also being the primary defender of the 2 cdm's, I expected a lot from him but I felt his stats and workrate would be perfect for this role. I noticed that even though his agility and balance were very high, he felt slightly more sluggish on the ball than Corona, and also Thiago who i used earlier; i quickly changed him to the sentinel chem style, as I felt he was slightly weak in the challenge, and his interceptions needed improving. Once doing this he felt like a new player, he was the combative, all-action player I needed to dominate the midfield. He was able to break up the play and progress the ball with ease, whilst still maintaining good dribbling and finishing abilities. After a very poor start in the weekend league (8-5) I was able to recover to a respectable 21-8, just missing out on Elite 3. Although his price has plummeted since I bought him, this wont matter as he will be a mainstay in my team for the rest of the game, I would highly recommend him to anybody looking for a midfield all rounder for around 750k; I have used many top tier midfielders such as TOTY Kante, Prime Vieira and Mid Zidane, Atal is far more effective in game as a box to box midfielder and suits this year's meta perfectly.
- 5 Star weak-foot - I shouldnt need to tell anyone this but its essential any players you have in goalscoring positons have 5 star weak-foot.
- Finishing - 10/10 - Atal was a very reliable finisher on either foot inside the box; scoring 5 goals in 23 games from CDM.
- Pace - 10/10 - Atal's pace was a real asset both in starting attacks and progressing the ball, and also covering for Gullit many times at right back when he was constantly outpaced at right back.
- Dribbling - 9/10 - Atal was great at turning out of tight spaces, however, his lack of 5* skills meant he wasnt able to do the flip-flap and scoop turn, the most effective skills in the game.
- Short passing - 9/10 - Atal rarely gave the ball away with his short passes, he is able to play quick short passes to help your team counter attack quickly.
Long Passing - 7.5/10 - Potentially due to his low vision stat, his long passing wasn't anything special; I wouldn't recommend pinging over the top through balls with him.
First Touch - 7.5/10 - His first touch was typically very solid, although I did notice on a few occasions when in attacking positions he would completely miscontrol the ball on his first touch, this could either be due to his 87 composure, or more likely, a side-effect of poor gameplay all weekend (fix it EA).
Strength - 8/10 - Whilst the sentinel chem style improved his strength, he sometimes lost out to taller or bigger-framed players in 50/50 challenges, this would sometimes impact his tackling ability but in the main he was still solid defensively.
In order to get the most out of Atal I would recommend partnering him with a more physical player such as a Vieira in order to allow him more freedom to attack; think of him like Pogba, he needs a more defensive minded player like Kante to allow him to run the game.
