After I saw a few Pros hyping him up, I had to test him myself. I replaced Allan in my 4-2-2-2 next to Wijnaldum. While he was there for the offensive duties, Partey should be the brick wall in front of my Defense, my cheap Kante. That didn't happen. First match Partey open at the edge of the box, low driven shot at the near post, first banger.
Off to a good start I guess. Still in the first half Gabriel Jesus makes a great run, Partey with the perfectly weighted chipped through ball, 2:0.
I could continue but the short version is: He just didn't stop. He was a bit clunky in build up compared to Allan but on a whole different level in the last third. Certainly better than any CDM I used before him like De Jong, Fred, Ndidi or the mentioned Allan and Wijnaldum.
He also wasn't bad in build-up, since even if he turned slowly his strength, dribbling and ball control kept him from loosing the ball.
In front of the defense he was exactly the tank I wished for as well, only Ndidi might have been a bit better, but that guy is absolutely insane on defense but lacking the offensive throughput.
I even scored a header after a corner and in general Partey did his job defending set pieces.
Overall just an insanely good card which I might not replace until I get my hands on Kante and can test him.
Very versatile - Top level in first and final third but even good in build-up
Sprint Speed - Faster than Allan with his +5 Sprint Speed
Long Shots - He changed the way I approach my shot creation, giving me new opportunities
Passing - In a central position he is really good at playing those through balls onto my fast strikers
Tank in front of the defense - Way less weird 50/50 glitches through him, he just tackles and gets the ball. Same for interceptions
Can feel a bit clunky at times, I wouldn't use him for dribbling in the box
Finishing in the box - more "neutral" than a con, as he can score in 1v1 situations, but it's certainly not his sweat spot
I picked up Partey a bit late, after he got his IF and I was a bit concerned at first about his price (170k at the time) but I'm an Arsenal fan and had to have him in the team. And man does he do bits in that midfield.
Literally nothing gets past him, cuts out through balls insanely and just tackles just about anybody super well too. Played him in a 4-2-3-1 with Sissoko at CDM, and is just a wall in front of that defence.
Felt a bit clunky at the ball, especially when going forward but still popped into some nice spots for key goals for me from time to time.
Overall would recommend this card 10/10, one of the most solid cards I've used all year
I have played over 100 games with Partey now and have tried every chemistry style.
Shadow is good, anchor is ok, engine is good. they are all average. Partey turns a bit like a tank with all of these on.
The thing you got to realise about Partey is you do not want him to go forward what so ever. You don't want him running back and you don't wanna have to sprint with him. You want to be infront of the player already because if your in front of him he's almost impossible to get past and the ball CAN stick to him like glue with the right chemistry style.
By far the best setting for him is DROP BETWEEN DEFENDERS. This way he doesn't get caught out and your always in front of the opposition. and the best chemistry style is GUARDIAN. the lack of speed doesn't matter because he's sitting right at the back anyway. The balance boost helps immensely and the ball control boost which you gain over the Engine is a massive difference. If someone walks into you then good bye. Partey always gets the ball and walks out the other side with it.
His lack of balance when you have a shadow makes turning and slowing down stupid. you don't wanna be running fast with him. you wanna sit in front of the player and just quick bursts of Sprint+Jockey . He's actually quite fast in this manner with a guardian.
He always has amazing passing. But be sure to be facing in the right direction. He's the only player I've seen do through balls from the back like all the way through the front of the pitch!
