FUTBIN Player Review

TOTS Moise Kean Review

TOTS is underway! Maybe my second favorite promo behind FUT Birthday… TOTS offers new and exciting players to test and use… links into leagues/positions that have been otherwise obsolete (how often do you go looking for a Ligue 1 left-back and regret not having completed Kurzawa or at least Bernat… or is that just me?)... and of course those one or two diamonds in the rough that end up being endgame players.  In TOTS Kean I was certainly hoping that a diamond in the rough would unearth itself and lead me back to the Elite promised land for the first time in a month.  With one of the sweatiest weekends to date preparing to commence it was important to get both the squad and tactics right before diving head first into the murky quagmire of potential-high-rewards-FUT-Champs.  With that, we went back to the 4-2-2-2 this weekend and honestly this might be the way forward for me during the TOTS grind.  I forgot the balance, the attacking options, and defensive stability that this formation can bring.  So much so that I put together a tactics video that will be live before this Friday on my YouTube: MaeNine … and while 4-3-1-2 has felt good… this was insane.  With the formation sorted it was as simple as placing Kean in the ST position and picking a chemistry style (which proved not so easy).  In the end, I tested HAWK & MARKSMAN while avoiding ENGINE because of my SHOT POWER theory (that it is the most important shooting trait this year) … and ultimately settled on HAWK to close out the weekend.  Moise Kean was the guppy destroyer all weekend long in the following squad:

Starting Formation:

In-game Formation:

Overall

Rating: 7.5/10
Pace Rating: 9/10
Dribbling Rating: 7.5/10
Shooting Rating: 9/10
Passing Rating: 7/10
Physical Rating: 8/10
Defending Rating: N/A

For a 50k card in the height of juiced cards, I think that Kean performed admirably.  I call him the guppy destroyer due to the fact that against opponents that were not at my level, Kean was a force and dominated… banging in goals for fun.  It is the pace that was the make or break for Kean, which I will look at closer in the main attribute section.  Overall, I will just say that Kean plays like a 182cm | 6’0 card in FIFA 21… and if you have played the game to any extent you will know that this kills a card's potential of reaching elite level heights.

Main Attribute – Shooting

Shooting Rating: 9/10
Weak Foot: ***
Traits: None

The shooting with this card was one of the few surprises I encountered during the review.  The 3 STAR WEAK FOOT at this point in FUT is a borderline dealbreaker.  To be viable you need to have one of three things going on: 1. The card has a hidden boost to the weak foot that makes it feel more like a 4 or 5… 2. The card has to be cracked to the point that you can overlook the odd missed chance… 3. You set up your squad with the idea of avoiding the players' weak foot as much as possible.  With Kean, it was certainly Option #1 and if you had told me without looking that this card has a 4 STAR WEAK FOOT I would have 100% believed you.  Again, the 99 SHOT POWER mixed with 98 FINISHING was enough to literally power through any deficiencies in Kean’s left foot.. leading to numerous goals with both feet.

Main Attribute – Body Type

Height: 182cm | 6’0
Body Type: Average
Skills: ***

So many things to address here, so let’s dive into it and leave Value/Coins and Good vs Bad a little shorter this time around. First off I attribute the body type of Kean to everything he does good, but then blame it for all of his shortcomings… I know, it's confusing.  But let’s dive in.  First, the 9/10 Pace Rating feels entirely height based.   Kean uses his lengthy strides for a gazelle-like stride that truly accentuates his 99 SPRINT SPEED.  Yet, the 97 ACCELERATION feels incredibly slow on the uptake as Kean really takes a few strides to get going.  Again, this adds to why weaker players felt the wrath of Kean… when allowed to sprint in straight lines he truly is a handful to defend.  However, when stronger opponents forced Kean into situations where agility was needed, 87 AGILITY fell way short, and when I boosted this with chemistry styles I noticed zero difference.   Continuing down the rabbit hole it was also interesting to watch Kean off of corners all weekend.  Kean took up the close-post position throughout the weekend and only managed 2 goals (both in the same match), despite his height and 99 JUMPING.  Honestly, it felt more like it was more of a positioning issue as no matter how I moved Kean he would fall behind defenders when competing for the ball. Again, the card just feels like it has “big man” issues despite not always reacting as you would expect a player of his size should.

Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad

Value/Coins Rating: 4/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 3.5/5

50k.  16 goals and 9 assists in 20 matches of the sweatiest squads and sluggish gameplay.  Overall, I would say I am impressed compared to the expectations I had… and for a 50k card, you can’t expect the world.  Would I label him a steal of a deal game changer? No.  He is a 50k card who gives you an output that you would expect for that value… and therefore in a roundabout way is worth the coins in my mind.

Passing was one of the most interesting parts of this review.  9 assists is a nice return and are certainly better than many I have reviewed.  Kean at times could thread the ball like Prime Iniesta… only to go the next 75 minutes without completing a single pass.  The inconsistency was shocking, yet entertaining, as you never quite knew where Kean would pass next.

Closing Words

Moise Kean is an enigma.  In the not so distant past Kean has played for Juventus, then Everton and most recently PSG… and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him lining up next month as the newest signing in a Championship squad.  He is a hard man to figure out… and based on experience, the pixelated version is no different, maybe even worse. I never quite got my finger on the pulse of this one… but I can’t deny that there were times where this review felt like it had to be only 15 matches to move on with an important elite finish on the line.  However, the PSG man simply kept trudging along scoring the odd important goal or popping up with a key assist… playing his part in the WL grind.  In the end, I can’t in good conscience recommend this card...  Kean’s ceiling is too low to hit massive heights… and the stakes are too high to have any passengers.  However, if you are in the market for a cheap card that will perform as advertised, I can certainly say that Kean checks those boxes. Hoping you are safe and well.  Cheers for reading.

Cheap beast!
By MagnusB0, 24-04-2021

I was looking for a good ST in the French league and wow Kean was just what i needed. I played 10 WL games with him in a 41212. I tried him once in a 4231 but he is not good as a lone striker in my opinion. If your a guy that does not use skills he's right for you. His 3 star weak foot is a not a problem because of his high finishing and good Positioning. He does feel a bit heavy at times with his large body type but that's what you get for under a 100k

Pace (9,5)

He feels very fast on the ball and can easily sprint past players

Shooting (8,5)

Omg he is a sniper! With his high shoot power and finishing he scores everything in the box. But his weak foot can be a problem

Passing (7,0)

his passing does the job, but it's nothing special

Dribbling (8,0)

As i said he can be a bit heavy at times but overall he's really good

Physics (9,5)

He is a big lad what can i say

Wow. What a card. Tbh I am a big skiller, really rely on berba spins and what not and they are a big part to my game. However, I have been waiting so long for this card. And when i seen it i knew i had to get it. NGL i was a bit underwhelmed by his card at first glance, thought he was going to be one of the main cards in the TOTS but this didn't stop me from getting one of my favourite players. His shooting is immense, so cracked, and he turns so quick, just get the ball to his feet, quick turn, shoot and its a goal. His dribbling is actually good too feels decently smooth but nothing like lets say a Neres. He is very quick too. His price for what you get with this card is great. Not many people will like him and call him ass, but thats fine, they clearly dont know how to have fun on this game. Use the players you like and make them work.

SIlver TOTW Kean Was Better
By Monsterevo, 11-05-2021

I write this in anticipation of the Ligue 1 TOTS. When they do release and you pla on rounding off your squad with a striker orr connecting some nice TOTS Lique 1 players with TOTS Kean for chemistry, I say please save your coins and look elsewhere. I known he's only 34k, but that's 34k you can save by not getting him.

I packed him tradeable when the Community TOTS came out. After 10 WL games he never made it back to the squad, let alone the bench. After the weekend, I though about selling him for 50k, but decided to throw him into an SBC instead. I think by putting him into an SBC and reducing the total number of TOTS Keans available, I am doing this game a favor.

First off, I have no hate against Kean personally. I actually am rooting for success for him at PSG and I think he has great potential. My issue is this TOTS card the geniuses at EA gave him. In all honesty, it feels the same as his Silver TOTW card (which is a great card for a silver).

Lets break it down:

Pace - It's not 93. It feels like 87. It just seems like he takes a half second to get going and once he has the ball he just feels slow.

Shooting: 3* WF is a lie. He can't score to save his life with his left foot. Passing is even worse.

Passing: This is the ultimate let down. I know he has 76 passing, but he has 80 short passing, it cannot be this bad. He suffers to make the simplest passes in game. Multiple clear opportunities squandered because Kean couldn't get a pass to connect.

Dribbling: Really Weird. He feels stocky and clunky with the ball, but he really should't with just an average body type and 87 agility and 91 balance. Incredibly inconsistent when performing skill moves. Yes he only has 3* stars, but moves are available to him, such as directional nutmeg, he just can't seem to pull off consistently.

the closest player in terms of feel is weirdly enough Moments Kluivert. Clunky, a bit slow, and just inconsistent with skill moves. Kluivert can pass a bit better and has 5* WF.

Go get IF Ben Yedder if you need aLigue 1 striker for 35k. There's SIF Depay too at 40k. Need a true striker? Go get Future Stars David. Outside of Ligue 1 there's SIF Boadu, who feels way better on the ball, a better finisher, 5*WF and is half the price.

Anyway, save your money, many more Ligue 1 choices. Even at the rock bottom price of 34k TOTS Kean is a bad value.

  • Great links, just sub him off quick
  • Not worth the money
  • Can't score
  • Can't Pass
  • Feels clunkier and heavier than he should
  • 93 pace is a lie
