Summer Stars Chiesa Review

The book has finally closed on what truly was an amazing spectacle filled with breathtaking goals, increasingly enticing storylines and of course the possibility of it truly coming home.  While I honestly felt that England was destined to lift the trophy in front of a packed Wembley Stadium … it was the Italian’s that arrived and conquered in a fantastic contest to close out a wonderful month of matches.  This past weekend we took a look at one of the Italian stars from the tournament… the highly sought after Federico Chiesa.  Obviously, if you complete the guaranteed Summer Stars 2 pack you are hoping for the Brazilian flag… but if I had to choose the best of the rest then I would 100% be happy with the Italian speedster.  Looking back at the Euro Final.. prior to his injury it seemed like Chiesa would be the one to help Italy level the match with his pace, guile, and confidence to press the issue… and I can confirm that these traits all translate beautifully into his pixelated version.  The MARKSMAN chemistry style does some amazing things to the statistics on this card… and playing Chiesa as the striker in the 4-2-2-2 formation resulted in a weekend full of goals.  Chiesa certainly brought the energy all weekend long in the following squad:

Starting Formation:

In-game Formation:

Overall

Rating: 9.5/10
Pace Rating: 10/10
Dribbling Rating: 10/10
Shooting Rating: 9.5/10
Passing Rating: 10/10
Physical Rating: 9/10
Defending Rating: N/A

I wish that I still did ratings that were more specific because giving this card a 9.5/10 just feels wrong… but to call Chiesa a perfect 10/10 feels like a stretch as well.  9.8 out of 10 thou… perfect!  Maybe we will go back to this for FIFA 22?  What does everyone think?  Regardless of the rating fine tuning, there was nothing to fine tune about the qualities within this card.  When you look at cards that can match Chiesa’s base statistics in Pace, Dribbling, Shooting & Passing it is an extremely short list.  Three other cards to be exact.  Summer Stars Neymar + Alejandro Gomez, followed by FoF Vinícius Júnior and that is it.  With that group of elite company, it was destined that this review would go well… and it certainly did.

Main Statistic – Shooting

Shooting Rating: 9.5/10
Weak Foot: ****

While I have normally used the highest rating in this category I felt it necessary to highlight the shooting with this card early on in the review.  With the MARKSMAN chemistry style applied it is 99’s across the board minus the 89 VOLLEYS (and of course Pens).  The 4 STAR WEAK FOOT is certainly not a hidden 5 STAR quality, hence the 9.5 rating.  However, I would bet the house that this card is finishing any key chances you can create inside of the box regardless of foot.  With 28 goals in 15 matches, Chiesa had one of the most insane returns I have had in a while.  Truthfully, if I had not had 5 rage quits in those 15 matches I think it is safe to say that Chiesa would have eclipsed the 2.0 goals per game with ease.  While the weaker left foot is quite poor outside of the box … everything inside was lights out. What. A. Card!

Main Attribute - 175cm | 5’9 Gang

Dribbling Rating: 10/10
Pace Rating: 10/10
Skills: *****
Height: 175cm | 5’9

You can really take your pick when it comes to the main statistics with this card but the way that Chiesa feels on the ball is the perfect place to start.  99 AGILITY, 91 BALANCE & 99 DRIBBLING are joined by the boosted 99 BALL CONTROL & 97 REACTIONS to all combine beautifully into the smooth operator you get on the pitch.  As someone who uses limited skill moves, I could not get over how quick Chiesa was to respond to the left stick dribbles and turns I attempted in game… while the 99 ACCELERATION lets you rocket out of those twists and turns into the open spaces you create… with the 97 SPRINT SPEED keeping you at arm's length from would be defenders.  This card is simply special as a striker, but with these qualities, you can really take your pick of any offensive position and you will get stardust from this lad match in and match out.  As I have said before, I truly think the 175cm | 5’9 size is ideal for FIFA 21 and still allows some strength despite a smaller build.  With that, you can utilize a player like Chiesa in more physical roles in the middle of the pitch if you so choose.

Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad

Value/Coins Rating: 5/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5

420k for this card is a joke. I seriously can’t believe how cheap this card is.  Playing alongside the 2.5 million coin FoF Vinícius Júnior it wasn’t a matter of the Brazilian carrying the Italian to success… and with the 8 assists in 15 matches from Chiesa, it often felt the opposite way.  The 99 SHORT PASSING + WEAK FOOT are a recipe for intricate build up play, pinpoint precision, and then the 90 COMPOSURE is there to wrap up the move.

So what would I change?  The 5 STAR WEAK FOOT would put this card on another planet… but the price tag would most likely match the galactic superstar that it would create as well.  However, a more realistic wish would be that Chiesa better demonstrates the 90 STRENGTH that the MARKSMAN provides.  Additionally, the 82 JUMPING was not great and resulted in many lost headers on corners and trying to clear heavy pressure situations from the back.  These areas were not terrible and still warrant a decent rating… but I would say the lacking physicality is ultimately what keeps Chiesa out of the 10/10 conversation despite an excellent return across the review.

Closing Words

To all of the England supporters, I hope that after the pain subsides that you can look back on what was an incredible journey for the Three Lions throughout the tournament.  The young talent is there in spades and I can’t imagine a reality where their day does not come eventually.  To the Italians, a much deserved congratulations to certainly the most consistent performers throughout the tournament… and I can’t help but feel good of Spinazzola who was on pace for Player of the Tournament consideration prior to his injury.  Back in the pixelated version of the beautiful game, you can add Chiesa to the growing list of very very good cards currently available.  If you can find a way, you need to give this card a go… matching him with Locatelli is high on my consideration list moving forward and you really can not go wrong with both in any squad.  I hope you are all doing well.  Cheers for reading.
