FUTBIN Player Review

Futties Coman Review

There comes a time in every FIFA cycle where we need to seriously start looking forward to the next edition and prepare for what is to come.  With that in mind, we have decided that this will be the 2nd last review of the year and next weekend will mark the end of the FIFA 21 reviews.  I just wanted to take a quick second to thank everyone that drops into the reviews week in and week out… the comments and suggestions for improvement are much appreciated… and overall I just wanted to recognize a fantastic part of the FIFA community.  Also, a massive thank you to FUTBIN for letting me create and continue on with these reviews… honestly some of the absolute best people you could imagine, and thank you doesn’t seem nearly enough.  This weekend we decided to test yet another SBC as the trend of amazing and OP LW/LM appeared to continue with the Bayern Frenchman, Kinsley Coman.  If you have used the TOTS Coman then you will know about the agility and pace that caused so many issues upon his release… but you would also know about the 3 STAR WEAK FOOT that just about rules out any card at this point in the game.  The +2 WEAK FOOT was certainly the selling point for this card and I was excited to see just how much improved this card would be as the ST in my 4-2-2-2 formation.  The application of the MARKSMAN chemistry style seemed about right and we jumped in with both feet to Weekend League in July.  In the end, Coman was the surprise addition in the following squad:

Starting Formation:

In-game Formation:

Overall

Rating: 8/10
Pace Rating: 9/10
Dribbling Rating: 7.5/10
Shooting Rating: 8.5/10
Passing Rating: 9/10
Physical Rating: 7/10
Defending Rating: N/A

Yes, Coman was a surprise as I said… but this was not a pleasant surprise at all.  With 15 goals and 6 assists in 15 matches, this has to be one of the worst returns we have had in ages.  I would blame gameplay… the difficulty of the squads we faced… even my own ability… except for the fact that ASM performed amazingly alongside Coman for the entirety of the review.  While an 8/10 is still an okay review.. at this stage in the game it might as well be a 5/10 compared to the quality of cards that you are coming up against.  I honestly spent the last 3-4 matches of the 15 counting down the minutes until I could replace Coman and try to salvage the second set of 15 matches.

Main Statistic – Pace

Pace Rating: 9/10
Dribbling Rating: 7.5/10
Skills: ★★★★
Physical Rating: 7/10

Much like the TOTS Coman this card still has pace to burn and when I moved Coman out to the CAM positions I certainly noticed an improvement in his performances.  However, there were still some glaring issues that made this card a passenger in those difficult moments.  The 179cm | 5’10 frame doesn’t seem to help with Agility and Balance… and even worse didn’t seem to be doing much with Physicality either.  I truthfully think the unique body type caused some issues as I certainly did not feel the 98 AGILITY or 94 BALANCE throughout the review.  The 99 SPRINT SPEED was fine… but again the 99 ACCELERATION fell well short of that perfect marker.  Don’t get me wrong… Coman is not sluggish by any means… but he is certainly not the speedster you would expect given the statistics.  With all of the dribbling and pace issues, there were a lot of tackles that never should have been against Coman… but when they did come, I was surprised at how weak he felt on the ball, more often than not losing possession and with that, losing my patience with this card.

Main Attribute - “5★ WEAK FOOT”

Shooting Rating: 8.5/10
Weak Foot: ★★★★★

This review played out the exact same as my Allan Saint-Maximin review… and by the same I mean the complete opposite.  While Coman should be belting the ball on his “weaker” left side given the weak foot upgrade… this was certainly not the case in my experience.  The MARKSMAN application makes for some crazy viewing as Coman bumps to 99 rating in FINISHING, SHOT POWER & LONG SHOTS… but in game they simply did not come off this way.  Yes, there were some highlights to take away, but with only a goal per game, there were actually some slim pickings compared to the ASM review where he managed 14 more!!

Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad

Value/Coins Rating: 3/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 4/5

400k for a 96 rated fodder is about 300k too much.  Okay, I am being a bit over the top calling this card fodder.  True an 8/10 card can still perform, as Coman demonstrated with his goals and assist returns.  However, I think it is a telling sight that Coman is nowhere to be found on the popular players search despite his recent release.  While I realize you will have some comments claiming that this card has x amount of goals in x amount of games and that I don’t know what I am doing.  While this may be true… what I do know is that both ASM and Vinicius Jr. far outperform Coman across this weekend… playing alongside each other, in the same formation, with the same user, with wildly different results.

Compared to the power curve, this card struggled.  However, as a stand-alone card, there are still some really strong statistics that outweigh some of the poor performances.  The 92 SHORT PASSING was key to some excellent link up play and I will say that the 99 POSITIONING with this card is fantastic… I loved the positions Coman would pick up and his LOW/HIGH work rates did mean he was constantly on the front foot moving forward… but became more of an issue as I moved him out to CAM during matches when trying to see if he could perform in wider areas.

Closing Words

This card gets a hard pass from me.  If you are a Bayen fan or need Coman to complete some links then I will say he will most certainly do a job for you.  However, going into next weekend I do not expect to see this card very often Atal.  There are some issues that I can’t exactly pinpoint the root of, just that they were there and cost me dearly in 3 or 4 of the 15 matches reviewed.  I really hope that next weekend we get some crazy cards and can go out with a bang… Thank you all again for the reads and support.  I hope you are all safe and well.  Cheers for reading.

Coman Futties
By Bogey, 25-07-2021

First of all I am aware this card is a little overpriced for this time of the year. I was buzzing when I saw the Coman card leak on futbin early and was pretty disappointed he wasn't closer in price to the Koke card. My favorite part about the card is he doesn't suffer too much from being on 7 chem so it gives me a lot of options to move him around. I have mostly played him at a ST so far, and would recommend him for that position since his 5* weakfoot makes him great in front of goal. If you've tried his TOTS then this card is if they fixed everything that was wrong with that card. His strength and aggression boosts are very noticeable if you use marksman and it helps him retain the ball well compared to the TOTS and his the biggest difference just has to be the work rate change to high/low and the weakfoot upgrade. With his 99's for shotpower and finishing, even on 7 chem, everything goes in. The only thing I would have to mention is even though his jumping stats are high he never seems to really win headers. His body type is great for dribbling but even with the strength boost he doesn't feel like a real physical type striker. I would say having tried pretty every bundesliga attacking option he is probably my favorite to play as a ST and even though he is getting bad ratings for the inflated price, I think if you have a Bundesliga squad who cares it's so late in the game anyway might as well have fun with this card.
