Player Review
86 - Headliners
I was very excited to try HL Upamecano as he fits perfectly in my french/bundesliga hybrid, however I have been disappointed with the cards performance in game.
The standouts of this card for me are the sprint speed and strength stats. He is brilliant when chasing down a player on the counter and almost always wins the ball when tackling. His strength and body type also do a great job at preventing the "glitch through" effect from fake shots.
However there are too many downsides for a card at this price. While he has brilliant sprint speed, his low acceleration makes him feel quite sluggish in game. He is good on the counter, but has difficulty making quick movements in the box when defending 1v1's. The relatively low defensive awareness stat also proved to be an issue. I often found him out of position and not properly tracking strikers getting in behind the same way a RTTF Klostermann, Varane, Van Dijk would. He has well rounded dribbling stats, but the reactions and composure are a bit low for my liking, as he sometimes missed out on loose balls and didn't pass well under pressure. Finally, while stamina isn't that important of a stat for a CB, 66 was still too low to me, with him being extremely low by the 75th minute after playing pressure on heavy touch. I conceded many late game goals from my opponent's supersubs because Upamecano didn't have the legs to keep up.
Overall he is just not worth it for the price tag of 300k. 1 or 2 upgrades are needed to fix his issues, and until then you're better off looking at other options IMO. For Bundesliga I'd consider RTTF Akanji, RTTF Zakaria on 7 chem (underrated at CB) or saving up more and going for RTTF Klostermann (one of the best CB's ive used so far).
