96 - TOTS
5.0
THE ABSOLUTE UNIT OF A MAN
By Basematthausvibes, 24-05-2021

My goodness. Where do I begin. I have always loved Romelu Lukaku. The name is fun to say, he's the definition of a tank, and the tenacity IRL is the stuff of legends. I have however, struggled to effectively use him in Fifa. I've found his past versions to be clunky, and a fairly one dimensional "Power Striker." I was shocked to get Lukaku in my 4th player pick, and while he didn't fit my squad at the time, after a few games, he's become the centerpiece.

I have paired him next to Fut Bday Atal, TOTS Suarex, WAMAN, and all alone up top. He has filled every role extremely well. Right Side/Left Side/Straight up the middle, he's been more than effective and an absolute joy to use.

22 goals in 10 games, and I imagine that average will only go up the more I get used to him. Romelu is a giant at 6'3, and the unique body type allows for him to muscle people off of the ball in ways I have not seen from any other cards in this game. The 4* weak foot is barely noticeable, but if you can get it to the left foot, it's magic.

Passing is really good, particularly in the short game. Dribbling is also very good. 5* skills would have been great, but truly unnecessary due to the other abilities of this card, particularly his "run through defenders" mentality.

If I'm being nitpicky, a shooting trait other than Power Header would have been a really nice bonus.

Overall & Ratings:

Run through Varane with the absolute tank of a lad, Romelu "can't stop the shine" Lukaku. With pace, shooting, and physicality as key traits, the Belgian legend will not disappoint you in any way.

Pace - 10

Shooting - 10

Dribbling - 9.5

Passing - 9.5

Physical - 11

Defending - NA

Best Position - ST

Best Chem Style - ENGINE

  • The physicality. The most noticeable signature trait of the card. He bullies anyone I've encountered off the ball, and usually with some flair that gets him in a position to score.
  • A rocket for a left leg. Just shoot it. Don't be afraid of the 4* WF either.
  • Dribbling. This mixed with his physical stats and an ENGINE chem style make him a top class mover and shaker by the net.
  • Passing. 97 vision. 96 crossing. 99 short pass. 89 long. 99 curve. *Boosted with ENGINE
  • Headers. 6'2. Power Header trait. 99 heading acc. 89 jumping.
  • Perfect link to NAINGGOLAN
  • A whole lot of shine that you cannot stop.
  • Price. If I didn't get him out of a PP, I never would have experienced the wonders of this card. But if you have the coins or a way to get there, absolutely worth it.
  • No shooting traits. My man's got the curve to compensate, but the card would be perfect with an OTF shot trait.

TOTS 96 Lukaku Review
By mcdeeeeee33, 25-05-2021

Where do I start. Bolingoli at its finest. This card has insane stats on everything, I used to watch Manny make jokes about "The Shine" and earlier today I was surprised to see him in my 84+ Player pick. After replacing Isak with Lukaku, I played a few rivals matches with this beast and oh my god. The 99 finishing and shot power really are shown. Scored in the first 17'. Guy rage quitted. In some games i've played with him, I scored incredible finesse shots with an engine (Suggested chem style) making his curve 99, headers off corners, and he steals the ball from everyone. And I mean everyone. His defense is also very good for a ST. 89 aggression and 99 strength and he's on you. What i've noticed about this card though is his turns. It takes him like 3 business days to make a turn. But I still think that 4* 4* is incredible for Bolingoli. Stuck him up top to that TOTS Immobile (put an engine on him and he's mobile) and they finish everything. Incredible. Free the shine!

Nobody will believe this, but here goes...
By SweatyJewGoal, 08-06-2021

So, I'll start off by saying this card is NOT for skillers, LB-dribblers or the like. Lukaku does not, funnily enough, have the agility of a fly in the frame of a wardrobe. If you want someone who can dance through the defense, then you'll probably hate Lukaku.

If, however, you are willing to settle for someone who will just make defenses redundant at the most important times, then my word is this the card for you.

The title of this review says nobody will believe it. The reason for that is because of his record for me, the entirety of which is based on FUT Champions or Division 1 Rivals (Co-op and Solo)...

175 goals. 43 assists. 83 games.

I'm around 2100 skill points and always stop at Gold 2 on Champs... so, yeah. I have never had such fun with such a ridiculous card. I've used him with both CATALYST and HAWK, only ever at STRIKER, but the end result is always the same.

This card's pitfalls are obvious - slow on the turn, no real dribbling, slow skill moves, etc. What makes this card so incredibly prolific is the stuff he does well, he does to absolute perfection. His positioning is utterly astounding, and he will hardly ever be caught offside. Once he's on the move, defenders may catch him but there is no way he is losing the strength battle. In the box, the Andy-Cole-esque turn-and-shoot is an almost guaranteed goal, especially with the directional nutmeg giving you the extra yard. In the air, he doesn't always win the battle, but when he does you better already be holding the "skip celebration" combo.

To truly enjoy this card though, bring a friend. Bring someone who will fizz in low driven crosses or well weighted through balls, and watch the goal tally go up and up... and up... and up.

The only tall player I've ever felt was prolific was the Flashback Ibra from yesteryear. Now though, Lukaku is firmly in the top spot for HPOTY (Hench Player of the Year).

P.S. If you care about his passing, you're doing it wrong (although it is pretty damn good, NGL).

  • Once you get going, he's rapid and unstoppable.
  • His shots are ridiculous, but only if you refrain from using Finesse shots.
  • With Hawk, heading is an absolute doddle.
  • His through balls are on point most of the time.
  • Holds up the ball like he's put it in a bag and taken it home for tea.
  • Agility isn't amazing.
  • Skill moves take around 45 in-game minutes to execute.
  • Not really worth considering Finesse shots.
  • His right foot isn't that great, but it'll do.
  • Honestly, the obvious stuff.... but I feel like it's stupid putting the cons in here, because NO card capable of such a goal tally should be considered bad in any way.

Crazy Lukaku
By MarkOfficial, 01-06-2021

There is a lot to say about this card so let's get right into it. I used this absolute beast in a two striker formation together with TOTS Lozano, I must say that I can't really decide who is the better striker but if I had to choose it would be Lozano. Lukaku is really good but drifts wide a lot where he is useless and he is really disappointing when gameplay is slow, he isn't able to run properly anymore and turns like a truck. This is why I choose Lozano over Lukaku because Chucky always delivers for me.

Enough about the negatives of this card because this Lukaku is still insane and a true gamechanger. With normal gameplay he is quite fast and (of course) able to hold off every defender, even 90 Mbabu. In front of goal he is absolutely lethal with both feet, his left is a little bit better but I didn't miss the 5 star weak foot. His passing is perfect especially with an engine but the dribbling of this card makes him stand above your average TOTS striker. He is agile and able to slip past defenders like normally only small players can, the best part about this is that he slips past the defender and the defender can never recover the ball since Lukaku is way too big.

Long story short, amazing card with a lot of pros but is not able to handle slow gameplay and lets be honest, slow gameplay is a big part of Fifa 21 unfortunately. But the presence of this Lukaku in a game will be felt by you as well as by the opponent.

(Used solely in Division 1 and WL)

  • Lethal in front of goal from everywhere
  • Really agile
  • Absolute unit
  • Quite quick for an absolute unit
  • Good passing with engine
  • Can't handle slow gameplay
  • Drifts wide a lot

One Hunky Boi :)
By ting32, 13-06-2021

Really good card. I would say that I am an average player (gold 3-2) and he overall improved my squad by loads. I'm still making my adjustments in the squad here and there but generally I was content with where my team is currently at, which is to say that before I got Lukaku, my team was end game quality for me. I normally play a 4-4-2 with suarez and martinez in front, replaced martinez with Lukaku. He makes very good runs and beats even pacey full backs as long as he has a good starting run. I also found his four star skill move to be very helpful while attacking since I can add in more variations to disrupt defenders' expectations. The skill move upgrade definitely helps with the passing stats since I feel like he makes a ton of good assists. Dribbling wise, his body control is still quite clunky sometimes; I have TOTS Cuadrado in comparison, and while they have close enough dribbling stats, the body type and height really makes a difference. Thus, I would really recommend this card for those who want to add this to an already solid/agile attacking team, since he cannot make the same kind of contributions as say a TOTS Martinez or Muriel. That said, if you do have better players around him, he will help make your team shine.

I'm sure those reading this review won't find what I wrote above surprising, so I'm going to end the review by giving some unique aspects I found with him in my squad. In the attacking third, he is very good at holding the ball under pressure. The upgraded balance and agility means that he will pivot around the ball according defenders pressuring him really quickly, but unless you have other players planning to make runs off of the hold up play, don't expect him to confidently directional meg his way to a 1v1 with the goal keeper.

-Good agility, balance, and ball control for a target man.

-4*W 4*SM

-Very solid passing

-Reliable in front of goal

-Offers stability in attacking third

-Stamina

-Won't shine if you don't have the correct players around him

-Sometimes lack the aggression to push aside CBs to make way for the big boi
