FC 24 TOTY Flashback Bruno Fernandes Player Review - Cop or Flop?

That time of the year has finally come. What time? Team. Of. The. Year Time! In previous years it’s kind of felt like Team of the Year has dropped off a bit. That might be because promos like TOTS and Futties have started to over shadow these cards so for me, this promo needed a little revamp and EA have not disappointed.

Where to start? TWO TOTY teams have been released. Of course with the inclusion of the Women teams this year, we now have twice as many special cards which is a huge bonus! Alongside that we have had a bunch of incredible packs made available in the SBC section and speaking of the SBC section we have two player SBCs today! They are TOTY Icon George Best and the player we are trying out today, Flashback Bruno Fernandes.

Every year we seem to get a fantastic flashback item of previous Team of the Year cards and many of us were trying to guess what may come. I had my hopes pinned on perhaps a Modric card with him not being included in this years team but a Bruno certainly will be welcomed into my club.

Whilst this card has a +3 on his most recent Champions League card, notably he has been given a boost of the Weak Foot, which for me has always felt like the biggest let down for previous Bruno Cards. He has also had a switch up in Playstyle+ going from the Incisive Pass to the Long Ball Pass.

Bruno has joined the midfield team of Gullit and Rice for the games played today and what a perfect mix of players these were. I will say that Bruno of course comes out as a CAM and for the first couple of games I tried him in that position but something just felt off with him being a CAM so I moved him down to CM and he just seemed to flourish. This card feels well suited in the box-to-box role and on the occasions he is in open space, he can score.

Chemstyle feels pretty easy to choose from here. Shadow was a must for me. Bruno has 82 pace, which isn’t awful but could do with that boost. Then of course the main other stat that could use the boost, especially with him playing as a CM, is the physical stat.

Not a cheap SBC whatsoever with the pricetag coming in at roughly 700k coins to complete. The one thought I have is that if this card was on the market, he would likely be just over a million coins so I think it is priced pretty fairly but still a lot to sink your coins and fodder into.

How did he perform in-game?

+ Passing is without question the best stat on this card, he had the vision of an eagle when it came to making crucial passes

+ Shooting was also really impressive on this card, he very rarely missed the mark when taking shots on goal

+ Positioning on this card was quite impressive, it’s worth noting he plays a lot better as a box to box midfielder rather than an attacking mid. He pressed up with the team constantly but was also always the first one rushing back to fight off a counter.

+ The dribbling, specifically the ball control felt great on this card too.

+ Aggression as you would expect was used a lot, he pressed players constantly. Mix that in with the 99 stamina made this card relentless.

- Strength was a bit of a let down which could be frustrating due to how aggressive he can play. But when trying to fight off defenders he would be out muscled often.

Bruno Fernandes - Cop or Flop?

The biggest thing I struggle with one the first day of a promo is jumping the gun and completing the new SBC due to the fact that it’s a flashy new item that I want to try out. There has been a lot of content released everyday and I feel like this is just the beginning as we still have the rest of the TOTY to come. So to drop 700k in the first day is a little hard to justify. 

However this card performed incredibly well in-game and I do think due to some of the boosts he has had, he could last in teams for some time. The advantage we have right now is time. Because we have 30 days to complete this SBC and there are so many ways to get some fodder into our clubs. So my suggestion would be that if you aren’t a United fan, maybe hold off on completing this right away because there is plenty of time to get this one done.
