Serie A Team of the Season So Far Prediction

Inter Milan’s dominance in Serie A this season doesn’t go unnoticed with no less than seven players included in this side. Should the second half of the season play out like the first this would be one of the weaker TOTS sides but with the likes of Theo Hernandez, Kvaratskhelia and Martinez there are several gems within.

Yann Sommer - GK - 84 > 92 OVR

With Inter losing Onana, who was a pivotal player in their squad last season, it was of supreme importance that they managed to replace him. It turned out to be one of the best pieces of business over the summer though with Sommer coming in for around the six million mark and repaying that fee with ease. Inter have only conceded twelve goals so far this season with Sommer’s performances being a large reason for that.

Theo Hernandez - LB - 85 > 93 OVR

Hernandez may not be the most consistent player around but when he's good he is unstoppable. There is a reason he is known as one of if not the best LB in the world. With a position in TOTY, it would take something astronomical for him to miss out on this side and with three TOTW inclusions it's beyond obvious that he would make this side.

Francesco Acerbi - CB - 83 > 92 OVR

The sheer number of Inter inclusions to this side speaks wonders for just how impressive they have been. I have to somewhat limit their inclusions but Acerbi is not one of those to miss out. The Italian has led the back line superbly. While Bastoni has a similar performance level I have opted for Acerbi due to more games played.

Bremer - CB - 84 > 92 OVR

Juve’s defensive record this season doesn't get the credit it deserves due to Inter outdoing them. Any other season and the 15 goals conceded would be the best defence in the division. Bremer has played a key role in that record while also getting on the scoresheet twice.

Federico Dimarco - LWB - 82 > 92 OVR

With two LB’s more than deserving of a spot in this side, I can see the RB position being snubbed in favour of two LB’s should both continue their form into the second half of the season. I have already mentioned Inter’s defensive record but with eight offensive contributions, Dimarco performs at both ends of the field.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - LW - 86 > 94 OVR

Napoli have struggled so far this season and will be more than disappointed with what they have achieved so far. They could easily be snubbed entirely for this side but with EA needing big names you would expect someone to sneak in. For that reason, Kvaratskhelia makes my side. With six goals and three assists it’s far from his performances from last season but still a respectable tally.

Nicolo Barella - CM - 86 > 94 OVR

Barella has somewhat cemented himself as a household name for the Serie A with his consistent performances from the middle of the park putting him in contention when it comes to the best central midfielders worldwide. Despite strong interest from Manchester City the Italian seems happy to continue with Inter Milan, something fans will be more than happy about after yet another convincing season for him.

Hakan Calhanoglu - CDM - 85 > 93 OVR

Hakan has always been a talented player but has seemed to thrive within this Inter side, playing slightly deeper than previous roles but still contributing towards the offensive side of the game providing numbers a CAM would be proud of despite playing CDM. With nine goals in that dominant Inter side, it comes as no surprise that he makes this side.

Domenico Berardi - RW - 85 > 93 OVR

Berardi’s three consecutive TOTS inclusions came to an end last season but the Italian looks set to rejoin the squad in 2024, especially if he continues his first-half form. With nine goals and three assists he makes this side with ease despite only playing 16 from a possible 24 matches so far.

Dusan Vlahovic - ST - 83 > 92 OVR

This was a difficult call to make between both Vlahovic and Osimhen. I feel the latter will probably come in by the end of the season but with only 13 matches to his name so far he misses out at the midway point. Vlahovic makes my prediction as a result with the Serbian second in the Golden Boot race with twelve goals from twenty matches thus far.

Lautaro Martinez - ST - 87 > 95 OVR

The Serie A Golden Boot race looks like a one-horse race with Martinez currently sitting seven ahead of second with nineteen goals already. Inter are heavy favourites to win the title and with such a prolific goalscorer within their ranks, it's easy to see why.

Michele Di Gregorio - GK - 79 > 90 OVR

It is often the case that one keeper comes from one of the top sides while the other is lower down. That trend continues here with Monza’s Di Gregorio standing out. On multiple occasions, the Italian has been in contention for a TOTW position which is always a good indicator. To put it into perspective his average match rating comes in at 0.19 higher than Sommer, who everyone will agree is a lock for this side.

Alessandro Buongiorno - CB - 77 > 91 OVR

Torino games have not been one for the neutrals this season with just 21 scored and 20 conceded from 23 matches. The defensive side of the game has been superb though making them the third-best defense in the division despite being tenth in the table. Buongiorno has stood out within the backline while also grabbing three goals himself. Making TOTW twice as a Torino defender speaks wonders.

Adrien Rabiot - CM - 84 > 92 OVR

Rabiot has stepped his game up recently and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Manchester United all declaring interest in the French midfielder. Rabiot has bossed the Juventus midfield all season while also providing three goals and three assists.

De Ketelaere - CAM - 76 > 90 OVR

Atalanta currently sits fourth and thus deserves to feature in this squad but limited options stand out. De Ketelaere has finally started to show why he was hyped as a youngster and while he may not reach the very top he has a strong career ahead of himself. With both six goals and six assists so far he has been an attacking threat throughout the first half of the season

Matias Soule - RW - 71 > 90 OVR

Without a doubt, the breakthrough player in Serie A this season is Frosinone’s Soule. The Argentine can play centrally or on the right-hand side. Despite only being 20 years of age the Argentine is the main reason that Frosinone has breathing space from the relegation zone. With ten goals and two assists, Soule has contributed to over a third of Frosinone’s goals. A name to remember.

Oliver Giroud - ST - 82 > 92 OVR

Giroud’s career doesn't get the credit it deserves, having performed in three of the top five divisions consistently for the past decade. At 37 years of age, the Frenchman shows no sign of slowing down, leading the line for AC Milan with eleven goals and eight assists so far.

Marcus Thuram - ST - 79 > 91 OVR

While in comparison to his strikeforce partner Thuram doesn't compete in terms of goals scored his role in the Inter side can’t be understated. The Frenchman has nine goals and seven assists from 23 matches so far. Although many other strikers have more goals with his average Gazzetta rating being so high alongside Inter’s dominance I can’t snub him from this side.
