Sokratis. As soon as I saw the announcement for TOTG, I went to get his OTW card. After the SBC dropped and he got upgraded, I quickly sold it for huge profit and bought this card with a Shadow. I've lost some money on him, but I have no regrets. He is absolutely fantastic, every attacker, even the biggest and strongest will have a tough time against him. For 40-45K, this card is an absolute steal and will give a huge boost to any team. Let's get into his attributes.
Pace (72 / 84 with Chem Style) - He isn't exactly the fastest player in the game, but he is still quick enough to catch up to most attackers. The combination of low acceleration and higher sprint speed works excellently with the chemistry style, as it will balance his pace out. Like I said, players such as Varane and Ferdinand are easily better in terms of pace, but pace does not seem extremely relevant this year and thus I don't see it as a problem at all.
Shooting (53) - Am I really going to have to talk about this for a centre back? In my opinion, no.
Passing (55) - His vision is poor and his passing isn't good either judging by his stats, but I really haven't had much of a problem in terms of playing it out of the back with short passes. Sure, his long passing could definitely use some improving on potential future cards, so if you want to send a striker in behind he's not really the kind of player you want to do that with.
Dribbling (65) - For someone with his physicality and length, his agility and balance aren't bad at all. I must say, however, that he is pretty slow on the turn, which is down to his lack of agility. His balance wasn't bad at all and his reactions are fantastic, he will quickly get to any loose ball or intercept any attempts at throughballs.
Defending (86 / 94 with Chem Style) - His best stat, which you would expect for a centerback. Both standing and sliding tackle are excellent, his marking is fantastic and his heading is no joke either. His interceptions are a little low on the card, but he's still intercepted a fair amount of passes for me. I'd go to say he definitely is amongst the top 3 in the Premier League in terms of defending. It's brilliant.
Physicality (84) - This stat is great as well. He wins as good as every header (except against players such as Ronaldo) and easily bullies attackers off the ball, thanks to his high strength and aggression combination. 70 Stamina wasn't really an issue, potentially only in extra time but even then I don't think it will be necessary to sub him off.
All in all Sokratis is definitely an outstanding defender for the price you pay for him. His workrates are just perfect and if you get a chance to buy him and get him into a team, do it. You will not regret it. And as the title says; just buy him, und lass Papa den Rest machen!
This card confuses me just about as much as his last name does, For starters he is an absolute monster next to Van Dijk and with 90 base aggression he steals the ball from unsuspecting forwards like a bully taking candy from a toddler. His passing however leaves a lot to be desired, I like to play from the back and regularly restart play with my CB's but with 49 vision and 66 short passing I find him making a lot of error passes, which can be costly when he is the last man back. I put a powerhouse on him in order to boost his passing stats to 59 vision and 81 short passing which makes him a lot more usable for my play style of build up.
As he is a CB though his defensive ability is probably what you're here for so Let's get to that. His aggression, marking, stand tackle, slide tackle, strength, jumping as well as composure are all 87+. All of those stats lead to the feeling of having an absolute unit back there, if it's a ball in the air, he won it, if it's a 1 on 1 shoulder to shoulder, he won it, he wins just about every 50/50 ball. He does start to show some flaws however when he comes up against pacey players and gets drawn out wide. If you can get body to body with them you wont have an issue, however if they beat you they are gone and he is not catching up to them, if you left or right back gets beat on a one two don't expect Papa here to pick up speed and shut it down, with only 66 acceleration a turtle gets going faster.
OVERALL
This card is fantastic if say you don't have the money for a Van Dijk type player or you want a big sturdy player in back. I recommend pairing him with a faster more agile partner and make sure you have good back discipline and leave him out to dry against pacey wingers. His passing may be an issue for you depending on play style so just be aware.
I recommend this card as he is excellent at playing a traditional bully CB role.
