84 - SBC

The Hidden SBC Beast
By CondensedSky, 02-01-2019

As I was building a German team, this guy could not be left out. And boy, was I happy I didn't leave him out.

Just look at his dynamic pictre, this guy will leave that smile on your face everytime he scores a goal, and he does that a lot.

for me he scored 89 and assisted 51 in 124 games.

I used him as a RST in a 41212 for 80 games, and as a RCAM in a 4231 for the remaining 44, he performed will in both positions.

I did the SBC for around 40k without owning any of the players. This is because I sell EVERYTHING I get from the packs, especially the rare silvers will make you a lot of coins.

Let's start with his shotpower, he has got 97 of it. He bangs them in with ease, especially with the sniper chem-style which ups his shooting and dribbeling. Stay with his left foot, and he will give the keeper some trouble. Longshot finesse's often did the trick for me, but he is able to get in the box and bang them in there too, this worked best with the sniper chem.

He somehow scored some headers eventhough his jumping and stats wouldn't show you that.

Furthermore, he has 87 strength and 75 aggression, meaning he is able to fight off a lot of midfielders and wingbacks who will be trying to get him off the ball.

His passing and dribbeling are not something special, but his dribbeling was above average.

His major cons are his stamina, his 3* weak foot and his pace.

I personally didn't mind the pace since I don't use it too much, but it is something to be carefull of if that's your playstyle. If so, a hunter would be recommended.

His M/L help with conserving his stamina a lot longer.

In conclusion, this guy was good but has some downfalls. If you know how to avoid his downsides, you will unlock a dangerous ST/CAM who will be able to score a lot.

I would recommend using him on the right side of the pitch to be able to use his left foot more.

84 Podolski
By mdlibrandi, 07-02-2019

I had almost all the players for the SBCs so it wasn't difficult or expensive to complete so I figured I would take Podolski, even though I wasn't sure I would ever even use him. I used him as part of a German team (for weekly objectives) and was very underwhelmed. I didn't have very high expectations, but he still under performed considerably compared to those around him.

Pace: I played him at RAM, and the 81 pace was tolerable, but ideally it would be a bit higher. I wasn't going to waste a hunter on a player I'll hardly ever use, but even if I did, I think he would then be lacking significantly more in his passing and shooting.

Shooting: This was definitely the biggest disappointment in him. The shot power is pretty decent in game as you'd expect, but the rest of the stats aren't quite good enough for him to be a reliable goalscorer. I found it best to just slam shots at the goal very powerfully, and hoping they somehow find a corner, or more likely, get parried away where another attacker can get the rebound to score. Even cutting in onto his strong foot didn't let him get quality shots off. Definitely wouldn't recommending trying finesses with either foot, and right footed shots in general should be avoided.

Passing: Passing was pretty solid overall, if unspectacular (had one game with 5 assists, and 4 assists in 17 other games). Granted he was somewhat wide in the formation as a RAM and was therefore less involved in the buildup play, but he seemed to not even get into positions to receive the ball. Crosses were average at best, more often than not being cut out before they even make it to the middle. Right footed passes (again) should be avoided, especially crosses.

Dribbling: He was decent on the ball but I preferred other players in the team (particularly 84 Gotze and 83 Goretzka) to handle the dribbling. Composure, although at 83 seems decent, but is nonexistent because he missed 5 or so 1 on 1s with the keeper, pushing the ball around 3 feet wide every time.

Defending: I told him to stay forward, and therefore didn't expect him to contribute much defensively, and because of his low defensive work rate, he certainly chose to take zero part in defending. Because the team I was playing with was quite small, I thought he might be a decent/my best option for headers from goal kicks (because I didn't trust this team to build out of the back). Although he's 6' and going against fullbacks, he probably only won 40% of his headers, and even when he did, the ball rarely found a teammate.

Physical: The strength was probably the brightest part of his performances. It was a little strange to see someone cut in from the wing and then outmuscle Sule defending him, before continuing on to shank the shot where he had a clear view of the goal. Stamina wasn't an issue even though it is relatively low. This was probably a combination of his medium/low work rates and my instructions telling him to stay forward.
