Ramping back up with another review and this time we had limitless hours, but a return to EPL strikers in the form of Lucas Moura. The Spurs man has been rewarded with a +1 upgrade this year after a couple of seasons with an 82 rating (truth be told his performance in the Champions League Semi-Final alone was worth the rating increase he received). His stats are relatively similar from last year but what has changed is the game (obviously) and the current meta that makes Lucas so impressive.
The early question to answer is… was he better than Marcus Rashford during my review? The easy answer to this question is, no. But there are a lot of differences in the two that may lend Lucas more to other FUT Managers than Rashford does. During the Lucas review I played him as a CAM and ST in the 4-2-3-1 and 4-2-2-2 formations, here is what I found.
After averaging over two-goal contributions per game with Rashford I noticed a drop off in quality around the goal with Lucas by comparison. Lucas does not carry the clinical edge and power that Rashford does in and around the box. Don’t get me wrong though, Lucas is a phenomenal performer in FIFA 20 and does provide a potent threat. If your opponent is crazy enough to play a high line they will feel the wrath of the Brazilian in full force, but with the drop back style plaguing Division Rivals yet again, Lucas can struggle with the physicality of tight spaces.
Linkability
Rating: 4/5
.5 increase from Rashford for the Spurs man based on the support Brazilian players get in FUT squads. Currently, the Brazilian EPL options are also relatively cheap and offer some nice links for hybrid squads if that is your cup of tea. Finally, I think it is worth noting that Lucas has maintained a place in the FUTBIN top 10 popular players in FIFA 20… and has been joined in the top 20 by two of his Spurs teammates in Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele. Lots of options if you want to give this guy a spin.
Current Game Strength
Rating: 4.5/5
Again I am drawing on my experience with Rashford to formulate my rating for Lucas. He is dynamic in just about every way and stands above a lot of the current players available, except in height, which is a small portion of his downfall. The dribbling on this card is insane and 4 STAR SKILLS are combined with 93 AGILITY & 92 BALANCE, making Lucas a wizard on the ball.
Value/Coins
Rating: 5/5
In my mind, you can’t complain about a goal per game and Lucas delivered consistently throughout my review. Chipping in with 14 assists was also a huge bonus, but I do think that Lucas benefitted here from the potency of Rashford early in the week. Ironically, passing is one of the areas I feel Lucas underachieves despite his returns. Regardless, 1.5 goal contributions per game for a 50k player feel about right at this point in the game, and after a price range increase, Rashford is now at 85k .. making Lucas feel like a bargain.
Good vs. Bad & Unique Value
Good vs. Bad Rating: 4.5/5
Uniqueness Rating: 3.5/5
Lucas boasts the 4 STAR SKILL MOVE, 4 STAR WEAK FOOT combination that is highly sought after in the FUT Community. The DEADEYE chemistry style also gives Lucas a lethal injection of 97 FINISHING & 97 POSITIONING, yet somehow he feels weaker around goal than Rashford did… even on their left side. It goes without saying that Lucas has pace to burn, seriously, he is a rocket out on the pitch and you have to be careful he doesn’t outrun your own thought process. The negatives with Lucas also take away from how unique he currently is in FUT. He doesn’t stand out beyond the lightning quickness and responsive dribbling … but for some, this is still enough to rate the Spurs man. But for me he was just lacking in key areas of this edition of FUT, lacking strength and real passing ability. This card is still a top tier option but could be better.
Closing Words
Two down, many more to go. Lucas provided a good look at how pace kills in this installment of FIFA, and if you get this man in full flow he will leave defenders for dead across the pitch. An awesome option… just not quite at Rashford’s level. In closing, I appreciate the comments and feedback and your experiences with these reviewed players. Suggestions on future reviews are also welcome anytime and I try my best to take into consideration what the community is looking for. Hope everyone is finding their way in this new game, it has some serious potential. Cheers for reading.
Packed him in my starter packs and plugged him in as a ST in 4321 and CCAM in 4231. Very quick on the ball, agile in tight spaces and making cuts with outstanding runs. He's been very good on the counter getting behind defenders and the 4* skills are especially important this year with manual defending. He's a good finisher for this stage in the game. I bought Jesus (always a favorite) but thought he was disappointing compared to prior years. Pricey at the moment but all good players (especially PL) are going to be inflated the first month. Overall really loved the card. If you can't afford KDB or Eriksen (or don't love Eriksen's pace) then I think Lucas is the best PL CAM imho.
Pace. Just hugely important this year especially with counterattacks and through balls being more OP.
Skills. A 4* or above is a huge advantage especially early because so many players are uncomfortable manual defending.
Shooting. For the beginning of the game his finishing is pretty good at a cheaper price than most OP PL attackers.
Agility. He's drawn a lot of fouls weaving around defenders coupled with sloppy defending with many players not adjusting from AI defending yet.
Links. PL and Brazil always nice.
His passing is just Ok for a CAM but just fine if you play him at ST. I used Deadeye and personally not a big deal.
Low strength but it has not been a huge problem so far, his agility lets you work around tight defenders and draw fouls.
Absolutely insane, this guy is basically acheampong with steroids. He can play in any attacking position you want him to and will BANG it in the net. 4 star skills - he can cruyff turn and then BANG - the ball's in the net. His 92 pace gets past any defender and with his 4 star weak foot - BANG - it's in the net again. Oh, but his physicality is 66 so won't he get destroyed by 10 foot defenders? NO, nobody can touch him, even if you lay a hand on this beast you will regret it. Why? Becuase he will BANG it in the net before you know it.
Excellent pace
Great dribbling
Clinical finishing
Decent passing (not out of this world but good)
Will actually win some headers
Will get pushed off ball easily (but his dribbling makes up for it)
I was lucky enough to pack him UT before i even got the game in the app pre-release so i built my team round him and i haven't been disappointed. I've played him through the middle and out wide on either side (currently off the left) and he's been quality in all those positions. You need to slap Deadeye on him but then he's just a machine. He has 95 acceleration so that gets him away from pretty much everyone and then 97 positioning and finishing so he's great in the box, passing at 87 short and 86 vision is pretty impressive and with 93 agility and 92 balance he really suits the meta this year. Lack of curve means finesse isn't hugely effective but eveything else is great especially with the 4star WF. I've found he's scored for fun wherever i've put him and has been consistently brilliant with L1 dribbling and ball rolls getting him away from markers.
I saw Lucas was hyped so I tried him too. Now I almost played 100 games with him as a striker. Sometimes alone, sometimes with Vardy as an additional striker. He destroyes every defense, no matter who plays. VVD, Ramos, Militao...nobody can beat Lucas Moura.
Is pace is phenomenal. Only a few defenders can win a sprint against him.
His shooting makes every GK get mad and cry. He made a lot of people quit. He can also shoot from outside of the box, but inside he is more effective.
His passings arent bad. They arent perfect but they are enough to assist a run of Vardy or somebody else.
If you are a good player, he is able to win a dribbling against the best defender, dont mess with this little boy.
But if you play him, you notice that his runs towards the goal and his runs into space are out of this world.
His headers are so bad, he is not able to head inside an empty goal from a distance of 2m!!
And his physical at crosses doesnt come up against any defender.
Amazing player my favorite player in this game he has saved me on many wins. At first i got him for a supersub but now i think im going to take Auba out and start lucas. In one game i was up 5-2 at half in a rival match i brought him in and he scored 4 and assisted 1 i ended up winning 10-2. Another game i was loosing 5-2 at half brought him in for Auba and he scored 5 and i ended up winning 7-5. Pair him up with Son
Pace, shooting, passing, everything really he is a perfect player for me.
