I packed this card in the Ligue 1 guaranteed TOTSSF pack and was initially a little disappointed. I stuck him in a team and tried him out regardless, and wow was I proven wrong. I played him as the central CAM in a 4231 and he was incredible. Just for context, I used him for 10 games in division 3 and am a consistent Gold 1 level player in Champs
His obvious biggest strength is his left foot. His lack of finesse shot trait is made up for by the 99 curve. He scored 2 finesse shots for me in the 10 games i played with him, both from outside of the box.
Another thing that I noticed, more so on this card than his fut birthday, was his pace. He generally felt very fast, and for once I felt like a Di Maria card was playing to what his card stats actually were.
The main talking point with this card is his weak foot. Let me tell you his right foot is very very useable. ,On several occasions he'd opt to shoot (and score) with his right foot rather than utilise the outside of the foot shot trait, something which I didn't notice as much with the majority of Di Maria's other cards this year. I've used both his fut birthday and now TOTS this year, and I suppose the big question is whether or not the plus 5 rating is worth losing 2* of weak foot for, and the answer very much depends. Which card do I prefer? The TOTS, by a mile. But if you're an elite tier player, chances are that 5* weak foot could be the difference for you, so I suppose it would depend on circumstance and level. All I will say though is that the 3* weak foot certainly doesn't ruin this card.
His passing was brilliant, but that's something I've noticed with almost all of Di Maria's cards this year, so it's not much of a surprise
One of the biggest surprises to me was how strong he felt. When I used the FUT Birthday card a few months ago I decided he wasn't working as a CAM for me as he was far too weak. If any opposing defender pressured him, chances are he'd skew his shot or pass. This card felt different. Don't get me wrong, he doesn't feel like a Hulk, or Akinfenwa, he just feels much better on the ball and dribbling past players, something which is really important in my opinion when playing centrally.
5* skills
Potentially stamina? 91 at this stage of the game isn't exactly perfect, if you're taking a game to extra time you may need to replace him with that Ryan Kent you've got sat on your bench, or that Moses Simon, but I wouldn't say it ruins the card, it's just clutching at straws really.
I've only played 10 games with this card, so its a little difficult to pinpoint weaknesses, I haven't come across any evident ones yet. I really do feel the difference between this one and the FUT Birthday card, and for only 300k I think he's well worth trying out. I'll be using him in weekend league this weekend anyways, thats for sure
I got this card in my red picks this weekend rewards and I think he's worth every penny! He's fast and a good dribbler with insane internal stats. I do suggest anyone check out this beast if you can link him in your squad.
Shooting
pace
physical
outside foot shot
stamina
99 agility
5 stars skill moves
Weak foot (I actually managed to score a lot of goals with his right foot)
So, I was looking to buy Di Maria as I had just completed Idrissa Gueye, who by the way, is incredible. I am a gold 3 - Gold 1 player, and currently 17-7. At first, I wanted to get the fb Di Maria because of the 5 star wf, but as I compared the stats, the tots looked far superior. I play a 4-2-3-1 in game with Di Maria at striker. I'm a United fan, so it was a bit bitter playing with him at first, but my god, he did not fail to disappoint.
Shooting:
Obviously, with Di Maria having a 3 star wf, it would seem quite predictable that you are most likely every time to shoot with his left. However, this guy has the outside of the foot trait which was extremely useful meaning that Di Maria was not as predictable. He has an absolute worldie of a left foot and I suggest simply just pressing the O or B button. In terms of his right foot, it was quite reliable and was actually more reliable then when I used teixiera tots with his wf. With finesses from outside the box he is not like Messi but will score them every now and them. I used a sniper so all of his shooting stats were 99, making him extremely clinical, as well as the 98 composure
Dribbling:
Even though Di Maria doesn't really fit the meta in terms of height, this guy moves as if he is Kent or Messi. I simply just use the left button and he is able to glitz his way past players. He turns extremely well and I can't recall having a bad first touch as many other players do. His scoop turn is extremely nice swell. I am not an avid skiller but the boy has 5 star skills. What else could you ask for?!
Pace:
He doesn't have 99 pace but he feels extremely quick and can go by defender unless they have fb militao or tots Varane with a shadow. Then my friend, you are in trouble.
Passing:
Link up play is amazing and he can switch the ball like Paul Scholes in real life. But what do you expect when he has 93 + on every stat under passing. Also his free kicks are very very good.
Defending:
He has decent aggression so he sometimes wins the ball back high up the pitch, but apart from that his defending anywhere else is sub standard. I mean if you are planning to play in defence, then I cannot help you.
Physical: He isn't like tots Mbappe and is stacked, but because he is 5 ft 11 he can shield the ball relatively well and doesn't get thrown to the floor from a shoulder barge by a defender (I have no idea why they added that to the game, makes no sense but oh well)
Absolute mad lad, bought him in as a cheap replacement of Atal (RAM) because I wanted to stay liquid due to the incoming market crash... I'm a casual gold 1/2 player, but got 4 DC so gave up at gold 2!
Pace - very fast, if mbappe and adama feel like 99 i would say di maria feels like a true 97 pace card
Shot power and long shots - 99 in both categories, banged a few finesses on edge of box
Passing - Pin point, short pass on wf is alright, don't attempt long passes on the wf
dribbling - felt very agile, great ball control
5* Skills, partnered with pace and dribbling resulted in some insane acceleration of skill moves
Tackling - look, its not insane, but he surprised me when it came to tracking back and tackling the opposition fullbacks.
Balance - make sure he is aligned well if you plan to take a finesse with him, as it will go off target if he isn't well balanced
Strength - Average strength with not great balance can cause him to stumble/stagger a bit when in a 50/50
