TOTS is always my favorite time in the FUT cycle… not to be confused with FUT Birthday (my favorite promo). The reason I love TOTS is two things… one: getting Elite finally pays off at this time of the year, generally speaking, you are looking at an influx of 300k minimum to the squad along with the potential for some amazing red picks/fodder… two: the price of other “big” or expensive cards begins to plummet and allows a look at some of the best in the business in hopes that they were worth the wait. Enter into the conversation Mid Johan Cruyff. I have been abused by this card throughout the year and finally, it has come a time when I might be on the other end of the shoe. The question is/was… was I too late? Has this card already run its course as an OP option? After waiting and bidding, waiting and bidding, and then some more waiting, I finally got a decent priced opportunity and immediately placed Cruyff as the striker in my 4-2-2-2 formation… utilizing the HUNTER chemistry style in hopes of getting the most out of the Dutch legend. Cruyff was the x factor all weekend long in the following squad:
I was expecting a classy card… what I got was a Rolls-Royce. This card is just about the perfect specimen for this version of FIFA. Somewhere along the way, he may have lost a step or two on the likes of Tapsoba or Mbabu in defence… but overall I couldn’t have been more impressed with this card during the review. 20 goals and 10 assists in 18 matches were not staggering numbers by any means… but the overall gameplay, link up play, possession and final product that can be achieved with this card were out of this world. Not many cards I have used can compare, but there were still a few issues that need to be discussed.
There have not been many cards that I would call amazingly clinical in FIFA 21. There are some that can punish you outside of the box... Others that have the amazing power to beat a keeper close post time and time again... While some finesse the ball like David Beckham in his prime, whipping daggers into the hearts of opponents... Then, there are even fewer who can score with both feet… And finally, this card, who can do absolutely all of those things! The 92 COMPOSURE on this card feels like it is about 110 and honestly, outside of TOTS Suarez, I am not sure there is any other card in the game that I would want to take the final shot to determine a match. The 95 POSITIONING feels amazing as Cruyff constantly took up the exact positions you would expect him to… 99 FINISHING was lights out… and even the 87 SHOT POWER had that crisp feel to the efforts he put towards goal. I truly think this card would be a club legend if I had the coins to keep him, but alas, all good things must come to an end.
It is a well known fact that I am not a big skiller, so these types of stats I note for those of you that have the gift. However, due to the fact that I don’t skill, it is even more important that players are agile and strong on the ball in order for me to create goals with left stick dribbling being my primary means of attack. Thankfully, Johan Cruyff has some of the silkiest chops and turns that I have used and just continued the love affair with this card over the weekend. What a smooth operator. Again, some potentially hidden statistics with this one… 94 AGILITY & 80 BALANCE should not feel anywhere near this good.
Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad
Value/Coins Rating: 4/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5
3 million coins. A staggering number and generally unattainable throughout the year, but again, why I love TOTS. The issue with a card of this value is trying to determine if Player A for 3 million is worth THAT much more than Player B for a million coins in the same position. In this case I look at the likes of TOTS Luis Suarez who has been an absolute weapon for me in the past few weeks and a massive part of my consistent return to Elite. When you can get the Uruguayan for 600k I find it impossible to say that Cruyff is over 2 million coins superior… in fact, I am not sure he is necessarily superior at all in the first place… especially in terms of goal scoring. However, again, it is worth noting just how insane Cruyff was at everything he did this weekend… and therefore I would certainly not call him a waste of coins, just not 3 million worth in the end.
One small complaint about this card. There was certainly a time that Cruyff would have been a nightmare to handle with his pace and agility combined. However, at this stage in the game, everyone and their dog has 99 Overall Pace and truthfully it just felt that Cruyff was lacking in this area. Off the mark he wasn’t as quick as would be tacklers… and certainly, in the sprint, he was not leaving anyone in his wake moving forward. Obviously, speed isn’t everything, but it is such a key contributor to quality in FIFA 21… and while I wish it was different, it isn’t. I would also note that the 68 STRENGTH then becomes an issue as more and more defenders are able to get tight to you in attack. Yes, the insane dribbling allows for some serious evasive maneuvers… however, once they latched on, it was often game over.
Closing Words
So what? That is kind of the dilemma here. Is this card an insane addition to just about any squad.. certainly. Is he worth 3 million? I don’t exactly think so compared to what is out there. However, I will say this. This weekend I had my BEST ever finish in Weekend League and it came down to pens to make it even better. If you check out my YouTube video dropping today (MaeNine) then you will know just how close it was. I don’t think it is any coincidence that my best ever finish coincides with the review of this man. So maybe that is what 3 million coins are worth. Maybe that small bit of extra stardust is actually worth millions at this point in the game and was what I ultimately needed to put me over the edge in the end. Finally, I will say without question that this review was a ton of fun and Cruyff is special… if you have a chance or looking for an end game player to set your sights towards, you could do a lot worse than this legend of the game. Hoping you are safe and well. Cheers for reading.
How do I sum this player up that costs over 3 million coins?
Well, here it is.
Mr Hendrik Johannes Cruijff, our lord and saviour. I used Cruyff in a 4-4-2 switched with 4-2-2-2 in the Weekend League. This man holds the technicality that you'll need to attack your opponent head on, be it with simple passing plays, or witty skill moves. His dribbling is out of this world, and dare I say, better than Neymar in my honest opinion. He is ridiculously agile and his finishing does not disappoint. He has everything you want and need from a 3m+ coin player. He makes beautiful passes which matched up with quick 1-2's, are almost impossible to stop. He does however have some cons, which I will cover in due time. Comparing him to the likes of Mbappe and Ronaldo, his dribbling, finishing, and pace is up there. The only thing he does lack which the other high tier players have, is height and strength
Insane finishing abilities (almost like you've turned your slider all the way up)
Pace, although not one of the quickest, his dribbling and the correct chemistry style will see you breeze past defenders
Agility, moves so smooth and turns like a ballerina
Passing, you'd honestly have to use him to understand, but it's rare he makes an incomplete ball
5* 5*, which way will you turn? The possibilities are endless, and you'll always keep the opposition guessing
Price, but if you can afford him with a good team, he won't disappoint you
Strength, unfortunately he will lose the ball against a lot of players if you're in a shoulder to shoulder tussle
Stamina may be an issue if you press with him a lot, however he can last the whole 90
I played Johan Cruyff now for 300+ games. I played him in DIV 1 (2280) and FUT CHAMPS (usually 23 Wins). No player has ever impressed me that much (and I play since FIFA 15), he is the most enjoyable thing about this toxic game.
His shooting is like his passing precise af and it feels like he has 90-94 shotpower (82 is a joke).
Hes incredibly fast (the only problem is that you can not make 1000 runs over half of the pitch because of his 81 stamina).
this alone makes his price (3,6M) already decent.
But then there is the thing why hes the best player in the game:
His dribbling, compared with 5* 5* just makes him a cheat code, its like the ball is glued to his feet. He glitches past Varane and Gomez as if they were my dead grandfather (rest in peace but I beat you at the age of 4 lol). Sometimes I have the feeling, that hes the only one who can beat the script and make impossible things possible.
I had R9 (94), CR7 IF and Pele and they are all insane but not as good as Johan the goat Cruyff! I suggest you to put a Hunter or an engine on him. In germany we say "wuselig" to player with decent dribbling. Hes definitly The "WUSELIG" One"!
-Dribbling, its the best in the game
-He glitches past everyone
-Shooting, feels like you snipe the ball into the net with 1000km/h
-5* 5*
-Passing
-Pace
-Nice haircut and ingame face
-Lean Bodytype
-Great on every offensive Position (i prefer ST and CAM)
-Stamina (but its enough for 90 Minutes)
-Defending (but who tf cares)
-Price (3,6M atm) but he is DEFINITLY worth every single coin!!
So I have never written a review for a player before, but for this card I feel like I just have too.
I was lucky enough to get him as an option from the Mid or Prime Icon Player Pick SBC. Lucky especially since I have been saving up for months to buy his baby version and now I don't have too anymore!
As a longtime Ajax fan, playing with Cruyff in game has been a longtime goal. This is the first Fifa (Been playing FUT since 2012) where I actually the opportunity.
I have only played six games so far, all in Division Rivals (starting in DIV 4, but 5 wins and 1 draw took me straight to DIV 3 for the first time). But I feel it is already enough to tell you how amazing this card is. It is truly unlike anyother card that I have ever used before.
All about the dribble
For me this is basically up to the combination of three things: unreal dribbling, blistering pace and clinical finishing.
But mostly the dribbling, oh boy. I am not by any means a skiller in game. I know some basic skill moves (ball roll, bridge to bridge, berbatov spin, fake shot and elastico) but I do not apply them frequently and am trash at 'chaining them'. But that does not matter with Cruyff. Because you don't need any skill moves to dribble past defenders with him. He is just so silky on the ball, it somehow seems stuck to his foot. He keeps the ball real close to him and his responsiveness is so high that you can just use the left analog stick to run by defenders left and right. I cannot stress this enough: his dribbling is unlike anything else, truly glitched. Once you have found your open space due to this dribbling, his pace makes sures that he stays away. I do admit I was cheeky enough to apply a Hunter on him, just because I feel that the meta requires me to do so.
Deadly finisher
Once you have found your way to the goal, you can hardly miss with this card. HIs shooting is so clinical on either foot. His goal tally is only hindered by your own skill: as long as you make the logical choice (near post, far post, finesse, low shot), the ball will go in. In the six games I have played so far, he managed to score at least a hattrick in 5 of them, with him being stuck on 2 goals and 1 assist in the other game (3-3 draw).
True teamplayer/teamlifter
But most of all what I felt with this card, is that it actually pays tribute to the real player. Even though EA has done a dirty job in terms of his rating (to me Cruyff is only competing with Maradonna and/or Pele as the GOAT), I do feel that the way the card plays actually is accurate. Because what this card does, is the same as Cruyff did in his days: he lifts the whole team up a level. I just seem to have a lot better teamplay with him upfront. I think that this is due to the fact that this card is so good, the opponent is forced to commit more defenders to him, which opens up huge amounts of space for other players. Apart from the earlier mentionend 3-3 draw, the other five games saw me scoring 6+ goals in each of them, with a DR record of 11-1 in one game for me.
This is also reflected in the 11 assists that Cruyff provided and that is excluding the pre-assists (the pass to the player who provides actual the assist) that are unfortunately recorderd. Otherwise you could state that this card achieved a triple-double in those six games (goals, assists, pre-assists).
I can't wait to try this card in the upcoming WL.
Conclusion
This card is insane. I can't imagine how his prime or PIM can even be better. The only thing I can think of is more strength or stamina, but he does not really need it.
Sure he is not the strongest card and will get bullied of the ball by stronger players. The problem for those players is that they rarely get the chance to bully him because he already has shown them his heels.
And stamina-wise: it is not brilliant, but it surely is enough for 90 minutes (I do have him on stay forward though). Have not had the chance (because DR) to play extra time with him, but in fairness I don't think that chance will come often: you will have beaten your opponent within those 90 minutes.
Sure 4 million is a ridiculous amount of coins, but this is a ridiculous player. Get this man if you can.
Squad
BTW: I was too lazy to squad build my squad, but here it is, please don't judge my extreme pack luck:
4-3-2-1: Alisson, Klaiber 86, Van Dijk 90, Casemiro,90, Acuna 88, Bruno Guimaraes (87 CDM version), Ramos TOTY (packed from saving a huge amount of packs), Bergkamp 92, Cantona 90 (Icon Swaps 1, mid 89+), Cruyff 91, Neymar (packed out of 75+ rare player pack)
Everyone on 10 chem, except Neymar on 7 (starting formation is 5-2-1-2 to make this possible, switch ingame)
Hope you enjoyed the review, I was to lazy to spell check (+non-native), my apologies!
Back in Fifa 19, in July, I packed his baby version and he was insanely OP, didn't miss a single shot and his dribbling was out of this world. Then, this year, I completed the mid/prime icon pack for free and this sexy beast popped up. I've got mixed feelings with this card, I'd be lying if I said I liked this card more than his baby version and I don't really know why. 61 games, 46 goals and 36 assists playing CAM in a 4-2-3-1, all of his games were in rivals and champs. He is great but defo not worth 4M.
One of the best dribblers out there
5* 5*
Hig/low
Great attacking positioning
Long shots (outside the foot shot make it 10x more op)
