El nino, Liverpool's number 9
By jfkingchan, 18-12-2020

If you're old like me and you love football, chances are, you were a fan of El Nino at some point. Even if you aren't a Liverpool/Atletico supporter, you cant help but in awe with his performance on the pitch in his golden days. His speed, his strength, his finishing are all top notch. I can never forget the magical volley vs blackburn, that insane curve goal against Sunderland, and even his goal vs Barcelona that took Chelsea to the CL final. Simply, this card was the Torres you fondly remember. The ultimate no.9. However, he is definitely NOT META. He is definitely NOT AGILE. He is definitely NOT able to dribble his way past the entire defensive line. However, he made me genuinely enjoy playing FIFA 21, and made playing this horrible game mode fun again.

1. Speed. With a hunter, he feels pretty fast. Not Mbappe, Mane or even Rashford esque fast, but when he get a yard of space defenders will struggle to catch up with him.

2. Strength. I was very surprised when he managed to out muscle Van Dijk, Varane, Ramos and all those meta CBs. Even when the defenders catch up to him, you can simply tap L2 to shoulder off the defender. Not sure if its the hidden mechanics of the icons but he is strong as hell.

3. Shooting. Oh my lord. Left peg, right peg, long shot, finesse, chips shots, you name it. He just finishes everything. Even more clinical than IF Ben yedder, whom I hold a high regard in terms of pure finishing ability.

4. Positioning. He is not the most agile of players, but he just manage to find spaces behind the defence line like no others. There are so many strikers where you need to manually trigger the runs or try to find the pass to him, but he just do it on default. Most of the time you just need to press through pass and he is suddenly clear through on goal.

1. Agility & Dribbling. He is definitely heavy on the ball. A lot of much cheaper attackers feel better than him when it comes to dribbling. Don't try to do fancy runs with him.

2. Passing. Not the worst, but I didn't manage to get any assist with him over 15 matches, and I was quite surprised because I play a 2 striker formation most of the time. He is definitely the one who need to be fed, instead of being the provider.

3. Price. To be very honest, Mbappe, Neymar, TOTGS Rashford, CR7 are all cheaper or at a similiar price and they are all probably more suited to the game, more meta. For almost 1.2m his price is steep.

El Nino!

I decided to try this card out and used his loan for 3 games and its convinced me to go ahead and work towards his SBC as his card is the real deal.

His positioning is top tier. He always seems to be in the right position to receive the pass and get the shot off especially in a formation with 2 strikers.

His Dribbling was surprisingly good for a 6"1" striker and didnt find his build or size an issue as he actually felt really snappy and quick whilst turning.

His pace paired with his strength makes this guy so effective against the usual Varane and Gomez cards that you play every week as they just dont seem to be able to stop him.

His Price of 1M coins is fair if youre not too sure about sinking 800-900k into an SBC however with fodder in your club and upgrades youll be able to complete him for even less.

Overall he is one of my favourite strikers ive used all year round. However he is not Meta.

I wanted to like him
By nblhawke, 20-03-2021

BACKGROUND

I always wanted Torres in my squad and after testing his 85 rated card, it was such a disappointment. But eventually I said to myself that maybe 88 rated card is better.

Reasons why I hated Torres (85):

·        Slow

·        Clunky

·        Passing

·        Dribbling

 FORMATION : 3-5-2

GK – IF Pope

RCB – Walker

CB – Gomez

LCB – Tavernier

CDMS – Schweinsteiger (87), Beckham (89)

RM –  TOTY Grealish

LM- Salah

CAM – Gerrard (89)

ST – Torres (88), Mane

Torres (88)

Pace - 8/10 – He is a lot faster than 85 version but at times he can feel just as tall/slow going against guys like Varane, What If Smalling, Ferdinand.

Dribbling5/10 – His dribbling still sucks. He cannot hold the ball and keeps losing it when he is getting pressured. Very slow responsiveness and clunky.

Shooting9/10 – This is absolute a beast. He will score on either foot 9 out of 10.

DefendingN/A

Passing2/10 – What a big con. Absolute joke. He cannot do simple passes and expect him to not deliver the ball most of the time.

Physical8/10 – I think he does well which helps when you defenders are trying to bring you down. Also helps with his heading.

Price Bought750k – in term of value of coins, I would say he is overpriced and I would rather play Timo Werner (Gold or IF) rather than him.

Final Thoughts:

Believe me, I really wanted to like his card since I have Gerrard and Beckham on the squad but there are so many other cheaper options like ROONEY, Timo Werner, etc. that can do the job as well.

In my opinion, if you like Tall, Fast, Physical, Heading player, this is for you

If you like to pass or dribble upfront with your strikers, do not get this card.

El Nino
By finnlfc19, 10-02-2021

First off please bear with me, this is my first futbin review. I'm a massive Liverpool fan and got into football just prior to Torres leaving, so I found Liverpool just before he left. While I don't remember him playing too much as I was quite young, I still remember El Nino's legendary status as one of the best forwards to have worn the Liverpool No.9. Seeing that he would be getting an icon in FIFA 21 meant I knew I had to get my hands on him, and when his mid SBC came out, I finally had a chance. Of course I did him, slapped a hunter on him and jumped straight into weekend league...wow. What a player. Within 15 games he had become my favourite player on the game so far, easily outplaying every other player in my team and destroying my other attacking player's, like mid Del Piero and Salah, goal contributions. He became my go-to goal scorer, using his strength and pace to bully defenders and tear open back lines (especially Vidic ;) ) I may be slightly biased, but his goals to games don't lie - he scores goals, it really is as simple as that. He does have his cons, as most players do...but I'll get to that shortly.

Shooting - His shooting is by far his best attribute. His base stat of 87 looks nothing special, but with a hunter it is taken to another level. His positioning and finishing is world class, with his shot power being more than suffice to cause the net to ripple when he gets a shot off. His finesse shot trait really helps, with a finesse on his right foot resulting in a goal 9 times out of 10

Weak Foot - For me, I absolutely do not mind a player having 4* WF, and Torres is an example as to why. His WF time and time again feels better than Del Piero's, who apparently has 5*. The only difference I can occasionally see is the finesse shots on his left can be slightly less effective than on his right, but that is minor.

Pace - Torres is deceptively fast - with a hunter on him that boosted pace is definitely enough to trouble defenders. Granted, his body type, height and the sheer godliness of some of the faster full backs and Varane mean he can't simply break through with a through ball. However, his pace is certainly good enough - he isn't slow by any means, I'm thinking of an example in weekend league against Joe Gomez where he took a big touch past him and completely burnt him for pace. He isn't going to be outpacing everyone, but he certainly has the potential to cause problems with his speed. I play him in a two striker formation with headliner lozano, and those two a lethal together, with lozano providing the majority of the pace, and Torres the finishing.

Strength - For the base stat of 75 strength and only 63 aggression, you can't imagine Torres being a physical presence on the pitch. However, whilst he is no Adama, his strength is definitely better than what his card suggests. Some of the weaker CB like Kounde can often struggle against his tall, physical presence

Passing - For me his biggest con is his passing. At striker it doesn't necessarily have to be good, but Torres noticeably struggles in often quite simple passes. Lozano will often make a lovely run and Torres is just unable to make the through ball to find him. It is a pity, if he had good passing he would be one of the best strikers in the game.

Dribbling - For me, Torres' dribbling is not an issue. Does he feel entirely smooth on the ball? No. Is he the most responsive? No. But that isn't what you are getting with Torres - he is a big presence who will score you goals given the chance, not a silky dribbler. I don't mind his less than meta dribbling, but I know many of those playing in the higher divisions or with meta teams might expect something smoother.

Heading - For someone so tall and threatening, I can rarely rely on Torres to score headers consistently. I'm not sure if it is just the style of the game, or whether is is Torres himself. He will score the occasional header, but most of his efforts are too weak to trouble the keeper or simply not on target. This is disappointing, as if Torres could score those front post corners like I've seen the likes of inf Sergio Ramos do, he would be pretty much the complete goal scorer.

Price - Again, not an issue for me. This guy is a legend, and I would happily complete the pricey SBC for him. However, if you are not a Torres lover, you may see this as a bit steep, however I would argue the player you are getting is worth the coins/fodder
