Sometimes POTM can be a toss up between multiple options, but this one was just about a given, as the Egyptian King spent most of October firing the Reds into within shouting distance of the Premier League leaders.
The only question here was going to be just how much would EA demand for the Liverpool talisman, and would the gap in statistics match the gap in price? In the end the answer is one that could be highly debated and so this review aims to at least shine some light on the POTM version and discuss some of the options with Salah moving forward.
Starting off the Weekend League grind once again sporting the 4-3-2-1 formation, which suits the eye of a left footed player cutting into the box from the RF position perfectly. The HAWK Chemistry Style jumped out as a good option to take Salah one step even further and all was set.
Mo Salah was running down the wing… Then cutting in top box… all weekend long in the following squad:
Overall
What. A. Card! Ya, I know, “crazy that a million coin card is good bro…”, but they aren’t always good are they. In the case of Salah it was an immediately notable upgrade from any of the wide men I have tried, and it didn’t feel close. Still falling short of a 10/10 review given some of the missing pieces, but this is about as close as you can get without going over.
Main Statistics – Shooting
Shooting: 9/10
Weak Foot: ★★★
PlayStyles: Finesse Shot Plus, Chip Shot, Trivella
One of the key comparisons to Salah’s POTM is the man himself in Trailblazer form. However, this would already be a +1 to the POTM version given just how OP the FINESSE SHOT PLUS can be. Don’t get me wrong, TECHNICAL is a fantastic trait, but the FINESSE is just too broken at present.
The 3 STAR WEAK FOOT is one of the only attributes keeping this card real at this point and even then it was more of a 4 in application. The 99 FINISHING & 93 SHOT POWER contributing to the overall success on both feet in the end.
Value/Coins
Value/Coins: 5/5
29 days to craft, tons of XP and packs to grind from content, and even without all of that the 950k price tag isn’t outrageous… Okay, maybe it is a bit outrageous. But when you start comparing to the 700k you will spend and inevitably lose through a market crash or tax on the Trailblazer, it makes sense to grind POTM Salah. However, it is worth noting that if you going to spend every coin to buy every card to complete the SBC… I would consider a different option.
Good vs. Bad
Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5
As previously stated Salah can’t do it all, but everything he can do is done to the highest quality.
+ Seemed like a bit of overkill to add pace to an already rapid card, but needs must and what we needed was wins so, overkill it is. 95 ACCELERATION & 95 SPRINT SPEED with the RAPID PlayStyle make Salah difficult to contain, and even harder to catch.
+ The Dribbling with Salah really just feels like an extension of the Pace and overall this card proved to be incredibly responsive throughout the review. Certainly the 91 AGILITY, 93 BALANCE & 90 DRIBBLING are the key components of this “feel”... Normally we don’t give out the 10/10 without the full 5 STAR SKILLS, but this card is simply too good on the ball.
+ The Passing in this case is a bit of a difficult discussion as Salah both created assists and linked up the play perfectly throughout the review. Yet the 87 VISION & 87 SHORT PASSING are not great viewing from a statistics point of view. In the end I attribute the fantastic Passing much the same as I have with some other speedsters in the past. They simply open up so much space with their Pace and Dribbling that the Passing is easier to find and therefore easier to execute.
One thing that EAFC24 has improved is the unique player styles and just how similar some pixelated movements mirror the real life player. Salah is one of those options and looks so similar in game. Yet the one area they couldn’t replicate was the Egyptians unique ability to shield the ball.
- Even with the HAWK boosting Salah to 83 STRENGTH he simply can not protect the ball from bigger defenders with his smaller frame.
Closing Words
When you start filtering the 90+ Pace, Dribbling and Shooting you realize just how good the value is on both POTM and Trailblazer Salah. With the next closet option 1.6 million coins away you start to feel good about the decision to complete an SBC like this one. In the debate between the POTM and Trailblazer it is the ability to grind the POTM… And the fear of losing a huge chunk of coins on the Trailblazer makes the decision an easy one for me. Worth noting that the makeup of the SBC into extra 85 and 86 rated squads instead of one higher rated 88 or 89 rated really does help with getting the fodder required as well. 29 days to go… And then you set on the wing for quite some time.
Hoping you are well. Cheers for reading.
