A new Season brings new Storyline Cards for us to unlock, with Season 6 providing us new options to help us build out our Ultimate Team squads. In this article, I’ll give a review for each of the new Storyline Cards, covering their strengths & weaknesses, squad links, as well as giving my opinion of which player I think is the best choice for both sets of players.
Everyone’s club is unique, of course, so if you have a squad consisting of players from only one league, go for the player from that league if the option is there. If that easy option isn’t there for you, hopefully this article can help you pick the player which would be of most use to you.
Level 15 – 27,600 XP Required
Mohamed Elyounoussi, Celtic
Card Analysis: He might not be quite at Ryan Kent’s level, but with 4* Skill Moves & a 4* Weak Foot, 91 Pace & excellent Dribbling stats like 96 Agility, 95 Agility & 93 Ball Control, Elyounoussi isn’t a bad card at all. In fact, the only real relevant weakness I can see is his 80 Composure, but you can improve that with a Sniper Chemistry Style if you feel that’s necessary. He even has 91 Stamina so you don’t even have to worry much about him losing fitness during the game, while his Pace, Dribbling & Passing stats mean he could play anywhere across the frontline as well as at CAM.
Links: Although they’re both Celtic players, there’s no way to link Elyounoussi & the UEL RTTF James Forrest you might have if you picked him over Ryan Kent without one of them being out of position & off of chemistry, however, you have plenty of options when it comes to all the Norwegian special cards that’ve been released this year; such as Håland’s countless cards, Future Stars Academy Ødegaard & Season 5 Storyline player Thorsby if you picked him.
Chemistry Style: As his Dribbling stats don’t really need improving, Deadeye would be my first choice, but Sniper to improve his Composure & Engine to improve his Pace are good choices too.
Ianis Hagi, Rangers
Card Analysis: I’m sure everyone thought the same thing when they saw the Rangers badge on this card; “Great, a new player that links with Kent!”, with the accompanying emotion influenced by whether you have him in your club or play against him in every single FUT Champions game, but Hagi is a great card nonetheless. He has a 5* Weak Foot, boasts 95 Acceleration, 98 Agility & 97 Stamina, however, while those are admirable, his Dribbling stats in general are average compared to Elyounoussi outside of his Agility & only has 3* Skill Moves so, between him & Elyounoussi, I think my preference would be Elyounoussi.
Links: The obvious link is with UEL RTTF Ryan Kent (which’ll probably be why you’ll be picking Hagi), you also get a strong link with his Dad & Icon, Gheorghe Hagi, but, outside of them, it’s difficult to link Hagi into your squad without Icons, which you could/should be capable of doing at this stage in the game so maybe that’s not such a problem for you.
Chemistry Style: With a similar card to Elyounoussi, my Chemistry Style suggestions for Hagi are similar, so Deadeye, Sniper & Engine, but you could go with Maestro too as his Dribbling stats aren’t as good as Elyounoussi’s.
Juan Agudelo, Inter Miami
Card Analysis: The final option for Level 15 would probably only be of interest to Americans or people with MLS teams, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Agudelo isn’t a good option to go with. He has great Pace, 96 Shot Power, 98 Agility, & has pretty good Physical stats. In fact, Agudelo looks like a decent target man, especially if you give him a Marksman Chemistry Style, with 4* Skill Moves & a 5* Weak Foot to add to his arsenal. He does, however, have a huge weakness & that’s 62 Balance, so a Sniper or an Engine Chemistry Style might be what you need to give him to improve it. I feel like the main reason why people would pick Agudelo would be to provide a strong link to League SBC Opara after position changing him to a CM/CDM, but is that worth picking him over Hagi or Elyounoussi? I don’t think so, personally.
Links: While he gets that strong link with League SBC Opara if you change his position, Agudelo is difficult to link with without Icons. Yes, there’re a couple of American players such as Future Stars McKennie, OTW Pulisic & Storyline 5 Josh Sargent to link him with, but Agudelo isn’t good enough in my opinion to alter your team just to accommodate those links into your team.
Chemistry Style: As I’d use him as a target man, I’d want to use Marksman, but if you want to improve his awful Balance, you’re probably going to have to go with Sniper or Engine.
Level 15 Summary: I imagine anyone with Ryan Kent will have already decided to go with Hagi at this point, but if you didn’t get him, or don’t have a team for any of the players, whether that be in terms of links or they just aren’t good enough to start over what you have already, I’ll judge the players on who’ll be the best super sub. If you need a striker as a sub, obviously go for Agudelo, but between Hagi & Elyounoussi, I’d personally go with Elyounoussi; I think he has fewer weaknesses compared to Hagi & offers a bit more versatility as he would be able to play at CAM, upfront at ST, as well as out wide.
Level 30 – 100,000 XP Required
Mario Götze, Borussia Dortmund
Card Analysis: Contender for the best dynamic image in FIFA 20, Mario Götze is the first Level 30 option I’m covering. The standout stats are his Dribbling stats, with every one of the 6 being at least 90, with 98 Ball Control as his highest rated stat. His other outstanding stats include 93 Positioning, 96 Short Passing & 95 Vision & Volleys, making him an excellent choice to be your no. 10. In fact, he’s relatively comparable to TOTSSF Brandt & nearly as good as Headliners Reus, so this is a pretty special card. You could counter that by saying “why pick Götze when I can get Brandt or Reus?”, well, that’s up to you to decide whether you value your coins more or your time to gain enough XP to get Götze more.
Links: There’re a few perfect links such as the aforementioned Reus & Brandt, but Borussia Dortmund offer an abundance of links to players like Håland, Sancho & Hazard to name a few so linking him into a squad is easy. The Bundesliga has some amazing cards like Headliners Lewandowski, FUT Birthday Havertz & TOTSSF Thuram so you’re spoilt for choice for links. Outside of the Bundesliga, you have Player Moments Sané & FUT Birthday Özil as the main options to link him with.
Chemistry Style: If you want to use him as a striker, Hunter would be the best choice. If you want to use him as a CAM, the usual candidates like Deadeye & Engine would be my choices. (I’m sure you can tell by now they’re my favourites).
Samuel Umtiti, Barcelona
Card Analysis: On face value, this Umtiti card looks decent, he has 91 Defending, 87 Physical, not bad Passing & Dribbling, but when you look at the in-game stats, there are some huge flaws. The most notable weaknesses are his 68 Agility, 72 Balance & 70 Dribbling, with 75 Stamina making things a little bit worse too. I saw a lot of content creators asking & hoping for Lenglet to be an option & I think EA missed a trick by choosing Umtiti over him; La Liga isn’t blessed with many pacey CBs, not compared to other leagues anyway, so I’m sure some people were kind of disappointed to see Umtiti & not Lenglet. That being said, Umtiti is still a good choice for those with La Liga squads as there aren’t many options like him available.
Links: As a Barcelona player, you have plenty of amazing players to link with Umtiti, with perfect links coming with Griezmann, Dembele & Lenglet, as well as strong links coming with the likes of Varane, Lemar & Areola. Of course, with all the French players that’ve been released so far this year in multiple leagues, you have a deluge of options for hybrids too.
Chemistry Style: Shadow is the obvious choice here, but if you want to improve the awful Agility & Balance, then go for Engine.
Pedro, Chelsea
Card Analysis: Adding his name to the endless list of right-wingers from the Premier League, Pedro is our final Level 30 option. This is actually the 3rd Objective player from Chelsea after Batshuayi & Kovačić so if you picked them in previous seasons you must be happy to add another one to your club. In terms of the card; it’s fantastic. 4* Skill Moves & a 5* Weak Foot means he can play anywhere across the frontline, with 95 Ball Control & 94 Dribbling his standout in-game stats. There’s just one big problem with him; if you have a Premier League squad, you probably already have countless right-wingers; Headliners Salah, Player Moments B. Silva, FUT Birthday Bergwijn, Future Stars Sarr & so on & so forth, so is it worth adding another player to the pile?
Links: Flashback Azpilicueta provides a perfect link to Pedro, but as a Spaniard from the Premier League, you have endless potential links. TOTY Kante, Future Stars Mount & Tomori, Player Moments Bellerin & Season 5 option Kovačić to name just a few strong links. Outside of the league, you have the likes of TOTSSF Pique, Busquets & Thiago, as well as Player Moments Sergio Ramos.
Chemistry Style: My original thought was Deadeye or Engine (yet again, sorry!), but the vote on Pedro’s profile on here had Hawk as by far the most popular Chemistry Style & I have to agree with the people who chose it.
Level 30 Summary: So, in terms of the Level 30 options, whatever way you decide to go, rest assured that you’ll get a great player. Of course, if you have the squad that’s perfectly set up for one of the players, go for that option but, personally, my choice would be Mario Götze. Getting someone relatively comparable to Headliners Marco Reus & TOTSSF Brandt for “free” is too good an offer to turn down, so for me, I’d go with him. As a super sub though, I’d pick Pedro; he offers much more flexibility with his Pace & 5* Weak Foot compared to what Götze would offer.
