The card isn't terrible. You'd obviously expect that from a 94 rated keeper but some of these reviews would have you think he's like playing a bronze striker in goal. It's not, I found his shot stopping and reflexes quite good and he was quite reliable in goal. I used him for about half a WL before switching back to 91 Ter Stegen. The reason i switched wasn't really down to his shot stopping - I didn't see a difference between him and MATS apart from maybe 1 or 2 shots which MATS probably only would've saved because of his superior traits. The main weakness of this card is the terrible distribution. both throwing and kicking, he's incredibly unreliable when distributing. He's just very weak and inaccurate. Overall, the card isn't as good as a meta keeper like Ter stegen. However, Yashin has a hat. And the hat is really cool.
Seeing only one bad and one neutral review of prime Yashin here, I felt like there is a bit of injustice. I've packed him from a prime icon pack and played over 900 games with him in Div 3-4 and WL (consistent Gold 1). I feel I have to say a word or two in his defense.
To me, he is actually an excellent goalkeeper. I've tried Ter Stegen, and he wasn't by any means better than Yashin. This guy jumps for the ball like a cat and has amazing reactions; he is a great shot stopper. He also runs very fast in 1 on 1's (70 acceleration on basic chemistry, only 97-rated Alissons are faster). And what I love about him is just how he is always there to pick up a loose ball. He never fails in that: no weird rebounds, no misjudgment. I can see that people complain about his ball distribution, but no complaints from my side. I'm not the guy who starts counterattacks with his keeper, for me his throwing and kicking is just fine.
In FIFA every goalkeeper has occasional bad days, and so does Yashin. But in many games he shines, and honestly, he is at least on par with the best goalkeepers out there. His moments card is even better though, and I consider PIM Yashin the best goalkeeper in FIFA 20 by far. If you've got prime or moments Yashin untradeable, sell your Ter Stegen for some liquid coins and give this guy a chance. I'm sure you won't regret. His unique hat is like a cherry on a cake and adds to the sentimental value of this card.
Diving, reactions, speed, handling loose balls.
Like every other keeper, he often punches the ball from crosses, which may lead to another attack. And like every other keeper, he sometimes has bad games when everything goes wrong.
I was quite surprised when i got this guy out of a icon sbc and couldn't wait using him in WL. i am not a great player (usually gold 3), but when using him my record is 0-7.
genuinely every shot from my opponent went in, and even picking up a loose ball was a sweaty moment during those games.
so after 7 games i am happily putting him into an sbc
Got him in the prime icon pack. Decided to give him a chance and sold my TOTS Ter Stegen.
Played him in one WL. Was probably the worst WL I had this year. I usually get G1, a few E3.
This guy is horrible. It's the animations he gets. He's one of those keepers that falls over like a log and everything just goes past him. I mean everything. He gets an ocassional brilliant save, like 1/20, but otherwise it's like hanging a towel on the bar of your goal.
He is also extremely slow and his kicking is terrible.
I have no idea how his market price is above the value of this SBC. Beats me.
Save yourself the trouble, use META keepers. He is definitely not that. Unless, you just want to see the hat.
The hat.
Plus maybe, when he f...s up a save you can yell: You soviet scum!
Animations are terrible - the ones where the GK falls over and the ball just goes past him
Lets be frank. You buy him for one of two reason. One: he is the second highest rated goalkeeper in the game. Two: he comes with a hat. And yes, the hat is glorious, and you almost love to see it in replays. Unfortunately, those replays don't necessarily justify the premium price you are paying, as he has two major flaws which led to me selling him after his 50th game for the club.
Let's break it down:
Diving: Very good, but you would expect that from a 94 rated goalkeeper. Saved a few near post shots as well considering, although I wouldn't necessarily say game changing above the elite keepers in the game
Reflexes: Again, as above, some good reflex saves aided by his frame.
Handling: Not as impressive as I would have liked. The reason why his diving is so good is because he wants you to see the replay when he pushes it out for a corner. Handling wise, I wasn't too impressed. He also punches at most opportunities which has its positives and negatives. When i work from a corner, it gives you that reset time, but when it doesn't it adds that unpredictability and positioning concerns. The handling is also an issue when dealing with balls into the box under pressure - he punches over the player rather than attempting to hold it like Ter Stegen would.
Speed: One of the two main negatives with this card. Despite a history for being the sweeper keeper daddy, I was not impressed with his out of the box charges, nor his positioning. Several times he has completely missed the opposition, whilst others he just attempts a run and doesn't get anywhere near. Van De Saar and the Spanish league duo are much better.
Positioning: Fine, questionable in some circumstances (when applying the speed stat) better in others when concerning diving. Not much to say.
Kicking: Lastly, the biggest negative, and the main reason I sold him. His all round distribution is very poor. His throws are weak and poor in accuracy - I lost count the amount of times he would chuck it out for a throw in when trying to play a full back in. His kicking is a negative as well - you will not make any quick counters or accurate balls out wide with this card. Again, felt inaccurate and weak.
In conclusion, I don't want to come over all Pep Guardiola in this house, but the combination of speed and his distribution was enough to outweigh what positives his goalkeeping ability brought to the party. If you are looking for a shot stopper pure and simple, there are better options out there, and for a fraction of the price.
I had some leftover coins and I was fed up with SIF Donnarumma so I thought I would go for prime Yashin, I mean he is the highest rated goalkeeper in de game right (besides specials).
He set me back 610k which is a lot for a GK. He has the hat in game which is unique but other than that.. there is nothing that warrants his price. He didn't make better saves than Donnarumma did. He didn't even make those 'wow' saves that Ter Stegen does. He is fast, he is decent. And one thing I noticed is that when you throw out with him, by default he does some kind of through ball, which could be nice on the counter.
