FIFA 23 Pavard Moments 87 Objective Review- Cop or Flop?

That’s right, Cop or Flop is branching out to Objectives! As the old saying goes, time is money, and we are going to try out objective cards and let you know if they’re worth your cold, hard time.

We are starting off with an absolute doozy too. 87 moments Benjamin Pavard. Given for one of the most aesthetically pleasing goals ever scored - his stunning first time, swerving, spinning, gravity-defying worldie against Argentina in 2018.

Check out the card! - Pavard 87

4 years later and a lapse in concentration in France’s opening match against Australia doomed Pavard to the bench for the rest of the tournament. Not that France suffered as a result. The French “va va voom” wasn’t quite enough to overcome the Argentinians beautifully crafted sh*thousery, but this was another incredible showing from a French side so talented, they could lose Benzema, Nkunku, Pogba, Kante, L. Hernandez, Maignan and Maestro Kimpembe to injury and still get to a World Cup final.

Moments Pavard In-Game Analysis

Let’s start off by stating the obvious here. This isn’t a right back. In that position, he has low pace and below par passing that will get exposed. However, once you move him to CB, and yes, you can move him to CB, he becomes a different beast entirely.

A quick flag here. When EA add content into the game, especially objectives, they don’t load all the assets for a player in the “preview” section. This affects alternative positions, skill moves, weak foot and traits. Always worth checking concepts, or, because I’m a company man, check out FUTBIN!

Back to the card and a Shadow is, for me, the only chemistry style to apply. Whilst an anchor does bump his physicals, I think the extra boost in his interceptions and slide tackling, coupled with the +4 pace that you get from a Shadow is too good to turn down.

He is an AI defender's dream. Positioning is immaculate, interceptions incredible, pacey enough to get around and with 99 standing tackle, even AI lunges are near perfect. I honestly felt like I was cheating at times with this card.

In foot races, he has enough to keep up, but that’s about it. As we steam towards a 99 pace meta quicker than any other year, it’s wild to say that 81 base pace is only “solid” at the moment for a centre-back. However, where he really excels is physically. He jumps like he’s coming off a trampoline and performed more of those “cabre toss” jumps over an attacker than any centre-back I’ve used this year. Even his 86 strength seemed too much for most forwards.

Where I absolutely loved this card though was his passing. Incisive, accurate, and pacey, he’s an absolute press breaker. Having this proficiency was so enjoyable, it really took the tension out of passing through a high press.

All in all, a superb centre-back.

How Does He Compare?

Well, he was brought out alongside another French Bayern Centre Back. Namely, Showdown Upamecano. This SBC had about 70% upvotes and I just couldn’t understand why. He was 220k and when compared with a free Pavard, it made absolutely no sense. Both 3/3, both 6’1” and with identical links, the comparison of the stats is startling.

In pure In Game Stats terms, Pavard has 2309 to Upa’s 2040. It’s a shellacking. However, that number doesn’t always tell the whole story. Pace wise, it would seem as though Upa has the upper hand with an extra 3 base pace. And whilst this would seem a clear win for Dayot, his pace split actually makes this much closer than expected, with 90 sprint speed and just 76 acceleration he’s fine over long distances but in short bursts and tracking a triggered run he can easily get left in the dust. Compared to Pavard’s 83/80 split I would argue this is a dead heat.

Apart from some extra strength and aggression, this is where Upa’s ability to stay with Pavard begins and ends. Literally everywhere else is a comprehensive demolition by the free card.

In terms of time commitment, this is an incredibly easy card to complete. Even playing full matches against the computer in squad battles, should take no more than 2 hours. As if that wasn’t a good enough deal, you can also complete almost any other objective whilst doing this. Whether that’s completing some Swaps objectives or even Silver Beasts, the fact you can get a genuinely top-tier centre back as a side quest is absolutely brilliant.

Moments Pavard Objective - Cop or Flop?

This card has 83% upvotes at the time of writing. Bearing in mind the 20 games you have to play for some squad foundations cards, the community is clearly very receptive to 7 game objectives.

X5noopy and mdmfc pretty much summed up this Objective.

This is one of the two best objective players I think we’ve had this year. But whilst Gosens was a great Objective in hindsight with the upgrades, this is absolutely elite now.

You will complete most of this by accident just by playing the game. Take the time to make sure you complete the rest and add one of the best Bundesliga defenders in the game.

This is a free card that, on the market, would be worth a lot of Benjamins.

Objective Rating: 9.5/10
