FIFA 23 FUTTIES Forlan Player Review

Team 2 of the Futties promo has arrived and we decided to honor the Argentinian Messiah by reviewing the newly transferred Inter Miami Futties Messi… But after he was extinct at 15 million coins that idea soon died… and even now the over 9 million coin price tag is just a “little” too expensive for our blood.

In the end we returned to a more reasonable price point and a familiar card in Futties Diego Forlán.  I was fortunate enough to pack the World Cup version of the Uruguayan untradeable, and he became a regular in my squad for a whopping 440 games, amassing 225 goals and 235 assists playing primarily as a RAM with some cameos at Striker throughout.

It was interesting how similar this version of the card felt to the previous… The upgrade is perfectly in line with the current power curve and essentially offers the same clinical results.  Despite using Forlán primarily as a Striker in my 4-2-2-2 formation, I do think that he once again has the Pace and Passing to flourish in a more playmaking role.
Forlan provided the cutting edge and clinical finish all weekend long in the following squad:

Overall

If you have entered the shadow realm that is Weekend League lately then you will know that the demons and monsters in those depths are of final boss quality.  The players are good and their squads are insane… And Forlán was up to every test that was put in front of him throughout the review.  In fact, after the 7 matches I continued to use the Uruguayan… Trusting him to provide the killer instinct on my road to Konate.

Main Statistics – Shooting

Shooting Rating: 10/10

Weak Foot: ★★★★★

Traits: Outside Foot Shot, Finesse Shot

One of the major reasons World Cup Forlán lasted so long in my squad was the clinical nature that the card carries.  There is literally nothing worse than putting everything together only for a striker to miss at the key moment… Thankfully this weekend Forlán was ruthless in front of goal and the 13 goal return only provides some proof after numerous opponents quit thanks to his potency.
It is easy to see where the killer instinct comes from with this card with a simple look at the ridiculous statistics.  The base 98 FINISHING, 99 SHOT POWER, 99 LONG SHOTS & 98 VOLLEYS all translated to lights out quality in game… While at the same time facilitating the ability to focus on the Pace & Passing from the ENGINE Chemistry Style.

It is worth noting that Forlán has been brought up to the power curve not only in statistics but also having received a 5 STAR WEAK FOOT.  Additionally, the prior versions of Forlán were well short on Traits and those too have been upgraded as the coveted OUTSIDE FOOT SHOT & FINESSE SHOT have been added… As if this card needed more weapons.

Value/Coins

Value/Coins: 5/5

182k is a low price to pay for the quality you receive from this card.  Only a handful of cards can boast 98 Base Shooting and that number dwindles further when you add the 5 STAR WEAK FOOT.  Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane can not compete with the movement and pace of Forlán, leaving only Futties Messi and Futties CR7 as comparables…

Good vs. Bad

Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5

There is nothing to really complain about with this card, but some small inconsistencies to highlight amongst the quality.

+ Again, the fantastic Shooting allows the ENGINE Chemistry Style to be applied and 99 ACCELERATION & 97 SPRINT SPEED is the result.  I love the boost of pace that Forlán has when receiving the ball and if you time it right and your opponent does not read the movement, it is all over and no one is catching him.

+ The left stick dribbling benefits heavily from the responsiveness of the 99 ACCELERATION and once again the FLAIR Trait reigns supreme.  The 95 AGILITY, 99 BALANCE & 99 DRIBBLING are not hurting anything either.  Didn’t go the perfect 10/10 because of the 4 STAR SKILLS, but from a strictly “feel” perspective, this card is right up there.

+ The ENGINE is key to the improvement of areas that could have been a problem with this card.  The 97 SHORT PASSING allowed some intricate connections to play out and the 92 LONG PASSING offered an outlet when needed.

Maybe just maybe there is one agitation with this card

- For being 180cm | 5’11 with an AVERAGE Body Type Forlán is crazy quick and agile… But perhaps the trade off is that given his size and 87 STRENGTH you would expect some serious resistance when opponents attempt to muscle him off the ball…  But in the end he was rather tame in physical confrontations and lost most 50/50 challenges throughout the review.

Closing Words

I certainly wouldn’t be upset if I could pack this card untradeable again and upgrade to the bright and shiny new version.  There is a feel to this card that suits my personal playstyle and a clinical end product that would make any FUT Manger smile.  The price tag is more than fair and will likely only dip as the weekend progresses, the end result?… A crazy, inexpensive warrior, to slay some of those Weekend League Demons.

Hoping you are well.  Cheers for reading.
