Lockdown restarted. It would appear that the Summer Heat promo has followed suit with the FUT Birthday selection method… France, France and more France. With the Vive la France movement in full effect, it was Franck Ribéry’s turn to take the spotlight. While the Ribéry SBC had a small effect on the market fodder, the introduction of yet another popular French option in Ousmane Dembélé has escalated prices to a new level, raising the price of Ribéry 150k from when I completed him originally. I wrestled with the value for money category all weekend as I deployed Ribéry as the left ST in the 4-4-2 formation; bolstered by the Shooting, Dribbling & Physical boosts of the MARKSMAN chemistry style. It was clear from early in the review that Ribéry had a lot of the FIFA 20 magic, but would he be able to make the concern about his price disappear? In order to find out, Super Franck was reinforced all weekend long by the following squad:
Out of the gates I really thought Ribéry was going to give Firmino’s goal tally from last weekend I really challenge. However, as the competition increased and the gameplay reduced the goal conveyor belt started to decrease in production. But, that is not to say that this card is not capable of incredible performance. Right from the get-go you can feel the speed and agility with this card. Ribéry rivals the most agile speedsters I have reviewed in the likes of TOTSSF Salah, Messi and Gómez. Then the 5 STAR SKILLS and ludicrous dribbling statistics take over where the pace left off. 97 COMPOSURE… the ONLY 3 in-game statistics between Ribéry and perfect dribbling statistics; and that near dribbling perfection is not only noticeable but prominent in the way that Ribéry can twist and turn his way up the pitch in full flow.
Linkability Rating: 4/5
I was tempted to go with the 4.5/5 again this week given that every French player in FIFA 20 now has at least two upgraded versions. However, the lack of Fiorentina options really does exclude Ribéry from a near perfect linkability rating.
End Game Strength
End Game Strength Rating: 4.5/5
Here is where this review starts to turn in a direction some might not agree, but I don’t feel that Ribéry is truly the upper tier of end game player despite his ridiculous statistics. The main area of concern is one that you would have expected flawless performance, his shooting. With the 5 STAR WEAK FOOT and almost perfect shooting (98 SHOT POWER & 98 LONG SHOTS) you would expect to fill the net to the brim with goals using this card. However, I actually found a lack of precision in Ribéry’s end product; hitting A LOT of posts, shots not arrowing into the corners allowing the keeper to save, and even some miss hit chances that landed in the upper stands from the top of the box. Now, I do think you have to put respect on the fact that Ribéry’s pace and dribbling created the majority of these chances in the first place. However, late in the weekend, up against the level of players that can only be overcome in the fine margins, these misses started to turn into a very big deal for me. While 29 goals in 20 matches are adequate… it is by no means amazing… and to survive the onslaught of continuous useable and high-level cards… I think we need amazing at this point, don’t you?
Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad
Value/Coins Rating: 4.5/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 4.5/5
800k will buy you a lot of quality by this point in the FIFA cycle… and before you jump on the “he only cost me 15k” bandwagon it cannot be argued that by putting your fodder into Ribéry you are taking away the potential to use those assets in the numerous/quality players yet to come. Additionally, that 800k is now tied up in a player that you feel obligated to fit into squads based on what you paid. For me, it was a review and I don’t feel as bad using Ribéry as a super-sub in the future… but I am certainly not thrilled about the fact that I used a lot of fodder and coins for a top tier super-sub going forward. In the end, if you are still dead set on Ribéry and were hoping that this review would be all sunshine and rainbows, then I would strongly suggest you find a way to at least try FUT Bday Saint-Maximin. Both are quality FUT options… and don’t get me wrong, Ribéry has some serious quality. However, they both also feel like they are just missing that something extra, and at least with ASM you are able to get your coins back if you don’t enjoy him… Ribéry is permanent.
The good about this card is that his beyond crazy statistics do result in some brilliant moments. The 93 FREE KICK ACCURACY resulted in a brilliant goal and reminded me it is actually possible to score these after a long drought. The 5 STAR WEAK FOOT resulted in a couple of thunder bolts that almost ripped the net out of place, causing the keeper whiplash trying to follow the blazing missile ripping past his ears. The responsive dribbling resulted in top tier defenders like Militao being turned to mush after Ribéry blended them with his razor sharp turns in the box. This card is good… do not get the idea that he isn’t … but he has enough small concerns to require warning and caution about what you are getting. One of these worries comes in just about the entire Physical statistic category. At 5’7 (170 cm) it is safe to say that Ribéry was not winning any high jump competitions anytime soon. However, the 62 JUMPING & 53 HEADING ACCURACY absolutely condemns Ribéry to the depths of header capabilities… then, the 90 STAMINA somehow feels way lower in-game and I actually found Ribéry waning at the end of matches even as a ST. However, there is one saving grace in this section… despite the smaller stature, Ribéry does feel like a tiny tank with his 96 STRENGTH… often bouncing off of tackles with ease and utilizing his pace to move away from the same defenders who tried to bully him in the first place.
I am sure that there are FUT Managers out there who feel Super Franck is the most OP card they have used. They have entered the honeymoon phase with this card and he continues to operate at a high level. But for me, I do not feel this card has any chance of cracking my end game plans and in all honesty, will most likely leave the starting 11 already this coming weekend. Again, the card is a great option… I cannot deny the qualities that Ribéry does possess and he did put on a solid display this weekend. But, I would be lying if I gave this card my full endorsement or suggested that he is worth your hard-earned coins (or fodder) given the other available options. I feel like you are paying for the allure of the 5 STAR/5 STAR and the French flag… while getting a shadow of what you are expecting. It is a no from me in the end. Cheers for reading.
Ribéry is a solid 9.9/10, I used Promes before him and he's definitly an upgrade.
I think Ribéry is better at CAM than LW tho.
I've used him as CAM and LW, he's good in both positions but I seem to see him way more often when he's at CAM, but I think that is normal, the only downside is the stamina he loses on both positions, I didn't use him as ST since I have TOTY mbappe, but I think using him as a ST would be definitly a great decision.
His Strength combined with his dribbling and 5stars makes him a top level player.
I use him at 8 chem and he's great.
Quick turns and shooting
French (easy links)
No shooting traits
Club/league (hard to link unless you have a french squad or calcio)
I used Ribery in a 3-5-2 next to jovic, OMG lets me say guys He is insane. His shots fly in the back of the net.His dribbling feels like 99 messi on steroids. Ribery pace actually feels like 97.His passing is like xavi in his prime. And weird enough is physicality Better than I expected. Even His aggression is actually insane.
