Bundesliga Team of the Season So Far Predicton

With Leverkusen still unbeaten heading into the winter break, it comes as no surprise that this side contains seven of their players. There is still room for additional clubs though with Munich claiming a few while a pacey Leipzig duo, Stuttgart’s prolific striker and a surprise package from Heidenheim all make the side.

Gregor Kobel - GK - 87 > 94 OVR

There are always a lot of contenders for the goalkeeper spot when it comes to the Bundesliga and this year is no exception. Although there are several keepers with stronger defensive records it is Kobel who I expect to receive the nod. The Dortmund stopper is widely regarded as the best in the division currently and while Dortmund continue to struggle Kobel is often producing world-class saves to prevent the situation from becoming worse.

Grimaldo - LWB - 84 > 94 OVR

The first of many Bayern Leverkusen players to make this side after a magnificent start to the campaign is Grimaldo. The Spanish defender was always an attacking threat while playing over in Portugal but since making the move to Germany his game has been taken to another level. A ridiculous seven goals and five assists from his opening 16 starts. When you consider these stats are from predominantly a defender you have to wonder what his limit is.

Dayot Upamecano - CB - 82 > 92 OVR

What you have to remember with the Bundesliga side is that a fan vote decides the starting eleven. This results in several fringe options being favourites due to their reputation and in-game cards. Upamecano has had a respectable season for Munich who obtains the second-best defensive record in the division so is not a bad selection but there are a few who probably deserve it more. Either way what a card this would be!

Odilon Kossounou - CB - 76 > 93 OVR

This has the potential to be one of the best CB cards in the game. Kossounou has it all, height, pace and strength. I could select the entire Leverkusen side for how dominant they have been thus far. Some will miss out but I don’t expect Kossounou to be one. The wingbacks receive a lot of the plaudits but with only 12 goals conceded they also boast the best defensive record in the division. Kossounou plays a huge role in that success dominating at the back for a very attacking side.

Jeremie Frimpong - RWB - 83 > 94 OVR

We have already covered Grimaldo but we only have to look at the other side of the pitch for a similar story. The way Xabi Alonso has his wingback's play has brought out the best in both Frimpong and Grimaldo. With five goals and six assists it makes a combined 23 returns from Leverkusens fullbacks after just 16 matches. Is Alonso the best new manager in the world right now? It’s hard to argue against it.

Leroy Sane - LM - 84 > 95 OVR

It’s quite ridiculous that Sane is still without an IF this season. The Munich winger has provided both eight goals and eight assists already this season and averages a 2.27 Kicker rating. A number which n other player can boast this campaign. The Munich competition for these positions is always greatly contested but Sane has seemingly made it his own for the time being.

Florian Wirtz - CAM - 85 > 95 OVR

Onto another option who is yet to receive an IF in Wirtz, although Wirtz has obtained a POTM card. The talented German is still only 20 years of age which is perhaps surprising when you consider how early he has reached his current level. With five goals and seven assists already Wirtz continues to impress making him one of the best-attacking midfielders around.

Jamal Musiala - CAM - 86 > 96 OVR

With the lack of minutes Musiala has managed so far this season for Munich there are strong arguments against his inclusion but when the talented German has been on the field his impact has been noticed. EA have previously included players with similar minutes under their belt and with the reputation Musiala obtains the two together would likely result in him sneaking in.

Leon Goretzka - CM - 85 > 94 OVR

As stated with Upamecano, a few players will be shortlisted and win via a popularity vote. Goretzka would likely be another of those players. The German has impressed as usual but once again several others should be ahead of him. Come the end of the season I would expect Goretzka to be among the favourites in truth though.

Serhou Guirassy - ST - 77 > 94 OVR

Several clubs are chasing Guirassy’s signature in the January transfer window and if that move is established then Guirassy won’t feature in the official TOTS. If the side was to be released now however the Stuttgart striker would be nailed on. Guirassy has found the back of the net on 17 occasions after just 12 starts (with 2 substitute appearances) with the Guinea international reaching new heights from seemingly nowhere.

Harry Kane - ST - 90 > 97 OVR

Almost everyone expected Kane to continue his impressive goalscoring record upon moving to the Bundesliga Champions. The Englishman has perhaps exceeded those expectations. With 21 goals from his opening 15 league appearances, there is a chance that Kane can catch Lewandowski’s league record of 41, a record which stood for 48 seasons before Lewandowski.

Benjamin Henrichs - RB - 78 > 90 OVR

There were a couple of Leipzig defenders in with a shout of making this side with both Henrichs and Simakan making their cases. With a couple of offensive wingbacks on the main side, it made sense for either an RB or LB to be included on the bench. Leipzig have only conceded 17 times despite only being fourth in the division. Henrichs has also provided four attacking returns and comes sixth within defenders on average Kicker ratings.

Jan Niklas Beste - LM - 74 > 90 OVR

There is usually a rogue addition to each division's TOTS side and on this occasion, Beste seems to be the player excelling. After gaining promotion from the second tier of Germany Heidenheim are continuing their momentum and sits in a respectable 9th. Beste has been their main attacking threat with five goals and seven assists to his name.

Granit Xhaka - CM - 82 > 91 OVR

Xhaka was always a talented footballer but during his time at Arsenal, it looked as though he was approaching the end of his time at the top. His role for Leverkusen can’t be understated with the Swiss international reaching new heights for the club. I would expect one of Xhaka or Palacios but not both. I could have gone either route here.

Jonas Hofmann - CAM - 83 > 92 OVR

The Leverkusen inclusions continue with Hofmann. With five goals and five assists Hofmann is another heavy contributor towards Leverkusen's 46 goals so far this season. The German can play anywhere across the attacking three but primarily plays centrally behind Boniface.

Xavi Simons - CAM - 79 > 90 OVR

Simons has shown why there is hype around him this season so far with four goals and seven assists to his name. The Dutchman's creativity is among the best in the division with several awe moments. Positionally he has played various roles but primarily his role is CAM thus I would expect his card to follow suit.

Lois Openda - ST - 82 > 92 OVR

Both substitute strikers are massively overshadowed due to the brilliance of both Guirassy and Kane but Openda’s stats are still seriously impressive. Eleven goals from sixteen matches is still an impressive record. Without Openda Leipzig probably wouldn’t be within the top 4 as it stands.

Victor Boniface - ST - 73 > 91 OVR

Ending the squad we have, that's right another Leverkusen option. With thirteen wins and three draws you can’t argue with the dominance. Boniface has received a POTM award to go alongside his ten goals and seven assists. It's not as ludicrous as the main two strikers but from sixteen games is still over a goal contribution per game.
