TOTS SON

Compared to the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Heung Min Son has quietly amassed a large array of cards throughout FIFA 19. Ten to be exact, and none as coveted as the newest edition; 95 rated ST TOTS Heung Min Son.  It is just about impossible to dislike “Sonny” and it is why I think he gains a lot of popularity when a card like this is released.  Or maybe it is the 96 Pace, 96 Shooting, 93 Passing, and 97 Dribbling with a 5 STAR WEAK FOOT and 4 STAR SKILLS… who knows?

Final Rating: 9.7/10

What a beast this card proved to be.  After reviewing the TOTKS version of this card I was concerned that there would not be a tangible difference between the two besides the 1.5 million coins.  Yet, this card eclipsed my previous review in both performance and results with 6 more goals and 4 more assists in the same 20 matches.  I would be tempted to even go a point or two higher in the rating, but playing alongside FB Firmino the South Korean was still second best and for that, I leave him at an incredibly effective 9.7/10.

Link-ability

This card is a bit of a nightmare for hybrids and I realize that using POTM Lucas at this stage in FUT is not ideal and really he offers the main Tottenham connection at this point.  Otherwise, you need to surround Sonny with the love of EPL connections or ICONs and make hybrids to other leagues a bit of a challenge.  Not a major category, but still worth noting.

Just take a look at the in-game statistics on this card and you realize that he will last the test of time and then some.  Having the 5 STAR WEAK FOOT provides incredible lasting power and once you get a hold of this card you will not want to let go.  6’0 (183cm) with 81 JUMPING (91 with HAWK) makes this card a threat in the air as well and drops him into the current META.  I should note that I went for the ENGINE chemistry style, which isn’t a popular choice (and for good reason), but I really wanted the boost to 96 BALANCE and it felt like the right application for my playstyle.  To each his own, this card would be fantastic regardless of the style you choose.

I had to go with the 4.5/5 rating here and maybe I am nitpicking but 2 million coins just feels like too much.  I realize that Thursday rewards will alter this price and then we could reopen this discussion.  The perfect price in my mind is 1.5 for this card.  I realize that quality costs coins but when I think about the TOTKS version of Min Son the performance of the TOTS was not 1.5 million coins improved.  In the end find margins do make a massive difference in Weekend League and Rivals, but the difference here does not justify the coins.

Uniqueness

Rating: 4.5/5

Realistically a 4/5 is more appropriate here but man does that dynamic image make me smile.  It captures the essence of Sonny in a snapshot and the fact that lightning is coming right into the Spurs star just electrifies his rating a .5.  However, if you want some tangible evidence … there is only a small hand full of cards with 90+ Pace, Shooting, Dribbling, and Passing with 85+ Physical … and only one has a 5 STAR WEAK FOOT and you’re looking at him.

Good vs. Bad & Closing Words

The only serious problem with this card is… the price.  I am hopeful that Thursday brings a considerable drop as I would like to get this card back for my final team, but these reviews require some constant rotation and FB Firmino has won a place for good (seriously, complete this SBC).  Maybe… just maybe this card was not quite as clinical as it could be.  But that is comparing Son solely to FB Firmino who just doesn’t miss.  But honestly I am just splitting hairs here and this card is just amazing and worth every coin… just about.  Once again I was able to enjoy the Weekend League, which is saying something.  The dynamic tandem of Bobby and Sonny (which also sounds like a new comedy featuring Will Ferrell) was full of goals and led to a decent win return in the end.  Cheers for reading.
