TOTKS Son

Another week has brought another promo with the TOTKS offering some interesting options to consider going into the TOTS squads and closing of FIFA 19.  I was finding it difficult to make a choice and so we go with two reviews this week. Obviously the first is the Spurs electric frontman Heung Min Son; soon to be followed by the Liverpool talisman Roberto Firmino later this week.  These two both brought me goals all weekend long and combined they were a force to be reckoned with in the 4-2-2-2 and 4-2-3-1 formations.  It was as if the two had sparked a competition similar to Gimli and Legolas killing Orcs; goal after goal they went back and forth... but who would be the winner?

Final Score

Final Rating: 9.4/10

This card comes as the base stats advertise: quick, lethal, and silky.  From a pace perspective, there is nothing lacking and then I added the HUNTER chemistry style to bring this guy into the category of a professional sprinter.  The combination of dribbling and pace are the right mix to keep speed even on the ball and really allows you to open up the center of the pitch.  I found that against players who AI defend it was incredibly difficult for them to bring back CM/CDMS when Son is constantly widening the gap after receiving the ball.

Link-ability

Rating: 4/5

I will say it again, all EPL players are an easy 3.5 or 4 in this category and while my reasoning for a 4 with POTM Mane was the Liverpool connection; in this case you have to consider the ST position change with this card.  The added option of using this card in the midfield when squad building is a nice perk and opens a lot of doors to make this pace merchant fit.

End Game Strength & Value/Coins

EGS Rating: 4/5
V/C Rating: 5/5

With the HUNTER chemistry style applied it brings all of Son’s Shooting statistics well into the 90’s and then you have the coveted 5 STAR WEAK FOOT creating two lethal options regardless of the position you play him.  The fact that a card like this is only a 4 is simply respecting how good the TOTS cards will be come the end of FIFA 19.   It is also worth noting that Son himself will most likely have a TOTS card that will eclipse his TOTKS option.  However, this is the reason I have combined the Value/Coins section of the review and you need to consider the cost difference that will exist between this options and TOTS Son.  As of this writing, TOTKS Son sits at 550k and I can only see this dropping as TOTS approaches. Even at 500k and this late in the FIFA cycle, it is my opinion that this card is beyond value for coins and is worth a look, especially if the TOTS option will be out of your budget regardless.

Uniqueness

Rating: 4.5/5

Son does not have any of the following: tifo, personalized celebration, in-game mannerisms, or even the most accurate in-game face.  So you are probably thinking… either this guy is a huge fan of the dynamic image of this card (I’m not really), or he has completely lost his mind (which might be true).  However, it is neither of these and a quick search on the FUTBIN app is where I state my case.  If you look at the players currently (I say currently because of TOTS) who have 90+ Pace, Shooting, Dribbling, 5 STAR WEAK FOOT and 85+ Passing you are left with a list of players who cost 2 million coins or higher… except three.  Headliner, FUT Birthday and TOTKS Heung Min Son.  This card has some very unique statistics and therefore I think justifies a decent rating.

Good vs. Bad

Rating: 5/5

I guess if you want to nit-pick you can go and fixate on the Physical statistics on this card, or maybe diving into a conversation about the 81 BALANCE is where the argument can be made?  In reality and in both cases I did not notice any deficiencies in these areas and this card just delivers game in and game out.  I have gone into great detail about the endless attributes this card possesses, but just in case you are not sold… 88 CROSSING and 90 VISION means you can play this card on the wing as well… he truly does it all.

Closing Words

Effective… about the only word I have left for this card and is perfect for summarizing this review.  As I look at the statistics I amassed during this weekend with Son I can’t help but feel that it doesn’t do the review justice.  It is a good reminder that statistics are not everything and little things like stretching the opponent’s defences and providing pace up and down the pitch are still worth their weight in gold.  The competition for goals between Firmino and Son was a tight contest and perhaps the sharing of goals is also responsible for a total that I would have expected to be higher.  All in all, if you decide to go in on this card, wait for the price to fall a bit more, don’t hesitate, and enjoy!   Cheers for reading.
